The HTC Wildfire S is the Taiwanese manufacturer's budget Android-powered smartphone right now. Even if it's not the cheapest Android smartphone around, the Wildfire S has a lot going for it – mainly the fact that its specced a bit above most of its competitors, so despite the small premium you have to pay it may be worth it. Well, you be the judge of that. Yet if you love pink, you may not be an impartial judge anymore.

Steve Jobs steps down as Apple CEO

Less than an hour ago Apple's Board of Directors announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as the company's Chief Executive Officer. His place will be taken by Jobs' trusted Tim Cook, who up until now was Apple's Chief Operating Officer. Steve Jobs' stepping down as Apple's CEO doesn't mean he is quitting Apple.

Sony has just released a salvo of cameras, and within that rather elite group, the Alpha 77 (a77) sits at the top.  The new a77 is the Sony a700 successor, and has a 24.3 Megapixel sensor, but although this number is impressive, it has other features that are even more interesting. Video capture  with auto-focus: First, this camera has a stationary translucent mirror that lets light go to the main sensor and the auto-focus sensor at the same time. This means that the mirror does not have to ever move the mirror. This is particularly interesting for capturing video with full auto-focus.

Nokia announced three new smartphones, which will run Symbian Belle. Photo: This Is My Next. Nokia hasn't quite completed its transition to Windows Phone 7, so it's still got a few Symbian phones up its sleeves… Even if Symbian is all but dead here in the United States.
Nokia announced three new handsets today, each with a specific claim to fame and running Belle, the latest version of Symbian OS.

The Nokia 600 is the cheapest of the bunch. It features Nokia's loudest speaker to date, which can blast tunes at 106 phon and an FM transmitter. It also is said to have a 60-hour battery life.

The Nokia 700 is Nokia's tiniest smartphone.

Droid Bionic ad has pretty much everything but a phone (video)

The new Droid Bionic ad sure has it all: a Portman-esque lady in an illuminated leather blouse, brandishing a giant sword against a Terminator-looking 'bot shooting lasers from his hands, all taking place in some crazy sky coliseum thing. As for the actual handset. Not so much on that front, save for a name at the end and a promised September release date - oh, and the implied promise that the phone will literally slice the heads off of its Android brethren.

Jay Leno and GM design boss Ed Welburn peruse the Cadillac Ciel concept

The Cadillac Ciel concept is a convertible showstopper that wowed crowds at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Not surprisingly, Jay Leno managed to secure some talking time with General Motors VP of Global Design Ed Wellburn, and the two chatted about the ultimate Art and Science-mobile while Leno got a look at some of its features. The Ciel concept is powered by a 425-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that's paired with a lithium-ion battery pack powering an electric motor.
