Facebook Releases Long-Awaited iPad App

Facebook's iPad app is available today. Image: TechCrunch. It seemed like it would never arrive, but at long last, Facebook has released its iPad app.
One of the key features of the iPad-specific app is its integration with other iOS apps: The Facebook app will send you straight to other apps when you navigate to them from a friend's news post or status update. For example, if a friend posted a link from The Daily, clicking the link would take you to The Daily app itself.

We're live from CTIA Enterprise & Applications 2011!

We're gathering at the San Diego Convention Center to attend the fall edition of CTIA Wireless, also known as CTIA Wireless Enterprise & Applications 2011. Sure, the name's a mouthful, but we can't wait to check out the show floor and get a handful of the latest and greatest gadgets. The biggest news so far is what won't be shown off at this week's event, but we're certain this shindig's got plenty more to take our attention away from good ol' Nexus whats-his-face.

As a kid growing up in Richland Center, WI, I sometimes had to be extra creative in finding things to occupy my time, and my creativity naturally gravitated toward all things technology. Soldering, erector sets and deconstructing toys were the epicenter of my young life.

Motorola Sending Out Invites for 10x18 Media Event, Droid RAZR Launch? [Update: Teaser Video Added]

Motorola is sending out invites to a media event to be held in New York City on October 18th, and the contents of their message are giving us plenty of clues on what to expect. The invites touts “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.” Aside from sounding like a lyric from a Daft Punk song, it also conjures up images of a super sleek Android smartphone. Add in the fact that the image file name mentions a “spyderlaunch” and we have a pretty good idea of what Motorola will be showing off. You will recall that the Spyder codename has been closely linked to the rumored Motorola Droid RAZR.

RIM unveils Blackberry Tag

Prior to Blackberry 7, owners of Blackberry devices who wanted to swap contact information had to either scan the QR code of the other person's Blackberry device or add them via the BB pin, but it looks like those days may be behind us as RIM has unveiled the Blackberry Tag. This new feature is expected to come as part of an update for the Blackberry 7 operating system, and the idea behind Blackberry Tag is one that iOS and Android users who use the "Bump" application should be familiar with.

Myriad Alien Dalvik 2.0 demonstrated on an iPad

. Myriad announced Alien Dalvik quite awhile ago - an app that lets you run Android apps on non-Android devices, but it's been awhile since we've heard anything about it. Well recently the folks over at Engadget managed to get a hands on preview with Alien Dalvik version 2.0, and this time it's bringing Android apps to iOS devices. I highly doubt we'll be seeing this on the Apple App Store, (and it's not like iOS users need Android apps in the first place - iOS has a much larger selection of apps to choose from).

Netflix backtracks on Qwikster, will keep DVDs and streaming under the same URL

The Netflix Contrition Tour 2011 continues today, as the company announced today that it won't be spinning off DVD-by-mail rentals into a new company called Qwikster. While the plan for DVD operations to be separated internally appears to still be under way (no word yet on the promised videogame rental option), for customers things will stay the same, with one login and one website. While the retreat will probably prompt even more speculation about the company's true plans, CEO Reed Hastings has issued yet another apology to customers, admitting Netflix may have moved too fast this time.
