More efficient heat sinks could sport nanowire whiskers

Sintering is a common process for creating copper heat sinks that involves packing powdered metals into a particular shape and baking it in a vacuum. A funny thing happens though, if you leave out the vacuum part of the equation: you don't get a solid shape, but a porous pile of particles with hollow, nanowire whiskers sticking out of it. The serendipitous discovery could lead to a new way to make heat sinks for everything from CPUs to boilers at power plants. Now researchers at MIT are trying the process with practically every material they can get their hands on.

LG Optimus One Skype Edition on its way to Koodo Mobile in Canada

In Canada, Koodo Mobile has been selling the LG Optimus One for a long while. In fact, it was the first Android smartphone that Koodo added to its lineup, and it was released in March of last year. The LG Optimus One is a rather affordable midrange device that has seen great sales across the world, undoubtedly thanks to its price per features ratio. Koodo Mobile is apparently now prepping to introduce a new version of the Optimus One at some point in the near future. Nothing is changed in terms of hardware, but the new handset will be called LG Optimus One Skype Edition.

2014 Audi e-tron Spyder (video)

. At last September's Paris Motor Show, we were thrilled to see this very concept car, the Audi e-tron Spyder. The crisp lines of its carbon composite exterior, its tapering side windows, its airflow vents cut in the hood, its almost impossibly clean and sleek interior treatment. all of it spoke strongly without trying too hard. After the September 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show debut of the R8-based all-electric e-tron, we then got the surprise of seeing an even smaller one – also called "e-tron" (perhaps to confuse and/or not give too much away regarding the design's important future) at last January's Detroit Auto Show.

Motorola Lapdock 100 will be available at Sprint on October 21

Last week, Motorola decided to officially announce its Lapdock 100, which is the successor to the Atrix 4G's Lapdock accessory. Unlike that, however, the new Lapdock 100 is compatible with the Motorola Photon 4G for Sprint as well as the Droid Bionic for Verizon alongside AT&T's Atrix line. So it's just one SKU to rule them all, which is definitely nice.

Based in Seattle, Washington, Kickstarter entrepreneurs Peter Seid & Phu Nguyen (Romotive) have created a cute, playful robot that uses your smartphone as its brains. Dubbed Romo, the robot features a motorized acrylic base with tank-like wheels that offer maximum mobility. Inside the base is basic analog circuitry that controls the robot using programmed frequencies. As you can see from the video above, Romo comes along with several different apps and is open for further development. Since the robot is controlled via a 3.5mm audio input, any smartphone that is capable of emitting the right frequencies can be used with Romo.
