Buick Verano goes to Europe, changes name to Opel Astra

The Opel Astra notchback sedan has completed its round-the-world trip. General Motors has based its latest compact on the Delta II platform. Designed by its studios in the U.S. and Asia, it was first sold as the Chinese-market Buick Excelle GT and then in the U.S. as the Buick Verano. Now it joins the Astra five-door hatch, Astra wagon and three-door Astra GTC as the fourth member of the lineup, going on sale later this month in European markets.

Ultimately the compact sedan will get twice as many engine choices as it has doors: seven powerplants will be available at launch.

Purported 15.4″ MacBook Pro with Retina display specs revealed, does not come cheap

After detailing the MacBook Pro, Mac Pro and MacBook Air specs, the folks at 9to5 Mac are back with specs that allegedly belong to that of a new MacBook laptop. Not only is this particular laptop expected to feature a new design, but it is also expected to feature a Retina-display. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but we guess with a couple of hours left before WWDC, we will wait this one out and see what Apple will announce. Back to the specs – 9to5 Mac's sources have revealed that this particular MacBook Pro will come in three different configurations and will sport a 15.4" display.

Intel: Android makes poor use of those multi-core processors

Nokia's CEO, Stephen Elop, has previously stated that dual and quad-core processors on mobile phones waste battery more than anything else. Now, Intel's GM of Intel's Mobile and Communications Group, Mike Bell, chimes in saying that Android just isn't ready for multi-core CPUs. While Elop's statement sounded more like PR talk (Lumia phones are exclusively single-core), Bell says that Intel have run in-house tests to reach the conclusion. Apparently, it's the thread scheduler that needs work.

Simply put, the thread scheduler is the part of the operating system that decides which CPU core executes which app.

Original iPad to miss on the iOS 6 fun, iPhone 3GS safe for now

The WWDC press conference is just hours away, but the rumors just can't stop coming in. This morning the Chinese forum WeiPhone.com brought links to the first builds of iOS for the different iDevices. The links still aren't working, but the community can be credited to several such leaks in the past so chances are they will become active once the beta goes official tonight.

Sphero to get new software

I read a comic that portrayed E3 in a rather humorous light, but rest assured, it is still all about games. The folks over at Engadget managed to spend some time with the good people over at Orbotix to discuss on the future plans that they have for Sphero. We talked about Sphero in the past, where it could receive orders from smartphones, with the possibility of it ending up as a game controller surfacing at CES this year, finally culminating in its launch across 96 countries – so what's up with the team from Orbotix at E3.
