If ever there were a purgatory for ideas, it'd be the USPTO's patent application database. That land of legal limbo plays host to a multitude of tech entries both bizarre and straightforward, much of which will never see the light of day. So, it's with a keen eye for the curious that we've stumbled upon this pair of filings submitted by Apple back in January of 2011 outlining a new social network specifically for hearing aids. Yes, you read that right, but its function isn't actually as obvious as you'd imagine.

New Mazda6 teased yet again, full profile revealed (video)

The painfully slow striptease of the next Mazda6 continues unabated. Fortunately for us, the Japanese automaker has seen fit to reveal the car's full profile, albeit in a video that never shows the car in its entirety. We've gone ahead and created a composite image based on screen captures – it's far from perfect, but hopefully it gives us an idea of how Mazda's swoopy new family sedan is shaping up. Click on the image above to see it in high resolution.

As before, we see clear evidence that Mazda is using the Kodo "Soul of Motion" design language of its Takeri Concept as the starting point for the 6's shape, and that's a good thing.

Honda recalls 172,200 CR-V and Acura ILX models over bum door latches

Ford isn't the only one having recall trouble with its crossovers this week. Honda has just announced a voluntary recall for its 2012 CR-V, as well as the 2013 Acura ILX, to correct an issue with their front door latches. According to Honda, operating the front driver or passenger inner door handle and the door locks simultaneously could disengage the handle's release cable, which in turn may result in the door not latching when closed or popping open when the door locks are used. No accidents or injuries have been reported, but the recall casts a wide net over vehicles sold in North America and elsewhere around the world.
