[Opinion] I've had enough of custom ROMs, it's now Nexus or nothing

Warning: I'm writing this after having spent nearly 24 hours trying to fix a few issues with my AT&T HTC One X, a period in which I went from a semi-functioning device to losing S-Off state, all the data on my SD Card (yes I did have a backup), and now having no ROM whatsoever on my phone, with installation attempts failing. TL;DR: I've had enough of spending time getting my phone to work the way it should out of the box. My first Android device ever was the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, which I purchased back in December 2010. The phone I really wanted was the Nexus S, but due to a few reasons I couldn't wait for it to hit the market.

Range Rover Sport R is supercharged and stripped down

Range Rover Sport R is supercharged and stripped down

Land Rover already produces a very, very potent, 510-horsepower, Range Rover Sport. Senior Editor Steven Ewing called it "the best Range Rover yet." From these new Nürburgring spy photos, though, it's likely to be supplanted by something even more potent. Known as the Range Rover Sport R (a vehicle our spies have shown you before), this time, it's done a subtle strip tease, swapping camo for bare sheetmetal. The result is our best look yet at what will almost certainly be the most powerful Land Rover ever built.

GM 6.2L V8 claims most powerful light-duty truck engine title

General Motors has officially captured the horsepower crown for mainstream pickup trucks with its 6.2-liter V8. The big mill, available in both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, comes to market with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, handily outdoing its two cross-town competitors, Ram (5.7-liter V8, 395 ponies and 407 lb-ft) and Ford (6.2-liter V8, 411 hp and 434 lb-ft). The new GM 6.2 will take a bit of an investment, though.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition gets JWR66Y Android 4.3 update

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition is receiving a small update to Android 4.3. The handset saw the arrival of the latest version of Android last month and users were greeted with a second build this week. Pegged with build number JWR66Y, the update features a Google security patch but little more. Some users reported seeing the update as early as this past Tuesday, while everyone should be seeing it within a few days. The update is a direct bump up from the previous build of Android 4.3, JWRR66V.

VW Golf R gets super serious with near 300 HP (video)

The VW Golf R has always been a GTI on steroids. But even with a bigger dose of performance-enhancing power than the GTI, every generation of R has left us wanting more. Until now, we think. The fourth generation Golf R, based on the seventh-gen Golf, has officially debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and under its hood is an increase in power that dwarfs the prior three generations.
Recall that the first Golf R32 produced 237 horsepower, and the one that followed made 247 hp.

. As someone who can touch type much faster that I can write with a pen, I prefer to use a physical keyboard with my tablet vs. an onscreen keyboard any day. Especially if I'm working on a review or writing a really long email. Most keyboards designed for tablets can't be used on your lap, but the new ZAGGkeys Folio keyboard case for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 can. It has a clamshell design with a hinge that offers over 135° of viewing angles. It also features backlit keys in seven interchangeable colors and three lighting levels.  The built in rechargeable battery offers up to three months of use between charges.

iPhone 5c Pre-Orders Go Live

Planning on picking up the iPhone 5c. You might recall yesterday that we mentioned the phone would go up for sale come 12:01AM PT, and sure enough it has. The handset will be available for pre-order via all four major US carriers - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, but for those who'd rather not go through the carrier's websites, you can always opt for Apple's website instead. The handset is currently priced at $99 for the 16GB mode, and $199 for the 32GB model, although these prices will require you to sign a two-year contract with any of the four major US carriers currently accepting pre-orders for the handset.

Apple promised improved battery life for its new iPhone 5s and 5c, but other than endurance times for a few use cases, the company gave little info on the battery itself. Luckily, it's FCC's job to certify such aspects of a mobile device so now we have the actual battery capacity. The iPhone 5, 5s and 5c batteries all work at 3.8V, but differ in battery size. The iPhone 5 had a 5.45Wh battery which works out to 1,440mAh.

Facebook brings auto-playing videos to your News Feed, watch those data caps!

The Facebook Android app is about to become a little more data intensive. The social network announced today that they've already begun testing a new, more dynamic news feed with videos that automagically play as you scroll past them. This is exactly how videos on Instagram and Twitter behave and we suppose it's Facebook's way of staying hip with the times. Keep in mind that auto-playing videos wont have sound, and the new feature can be disabled by the user (pictured below).

2014 Peugeot 308 is a dandy Focus fighter from France

2014 Peugeot 308 is a dandy Focus fighter from France

It's easy to focus all the attention on the Peugeot 308 R Concept, thanks to its two-tone paint job and 270-horsepower engine. For the more average European, though, we have the standard Peugeot 308. The cleanly styled, five-door is Peugeot's bread-and-butter offering, competing against the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and other C-segment cars. Being a small hatch for the European market, the 308's engine lineup shouldn't be a shock. Besides the typical range of tiny (by American standards) gas and diesel engines, the 308 range will play host to a new, 1.2-liter, three-cylinder gas engine.

Dryft Hopes To Improve Typing Experience On Tablets

Dryft Hopes To Improve Typing Experience On Tablets

. Some people actually find it quite easy to type on a tablet's virtual keyboard as opposed to one on a smartphone, obviously because the keys are larger on the tablet as it has relatively more screen real estate. However, there's one major problem that tablet owners might have experienced. Users can't rest their fingers or wrists on the screen when typing, because the touch is registered, which ends up pressing different keys unintentionally. Dryft, a software based keyboard developed by Swype's co-founder, hopes to eliminate this problem.

Audi Sport Quattro Concept speaks softly, carries a 700-hp stick

As promised, Audi has unveiled its Sport Quattro Concept here at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which takes inspiration from the 2010 Paris Motor Show debut known simply as the Quattro Concept. Both cars clearly seek to draw upon the company's legendary 1980 Ur-Quattro and its closely related Sport Quattro short-wheelbase rally special, yet this concept car looks more production-minded than the 2010 starlet. Despite its more conservative duds, this handsome and muscular coupe actually packs significantly more power than the 2010 Paris showcar.

PengPod1040 Tablet Runs On Android Or Linux

PengPod1040 Tablet Runs On Android Or Linux

Anyone who has had an experience with the PengPod range of 7" and 10" tablets would know that those tablets were able to run on Android, Ubuntu, or other Linux-based operating systems, and it seems that the time is ripe for upgraded hardware to be introduced to the PengPod range. The name does sound rather corny in my opinion, but to each his or her own, right. This time around, the PengPod1040 would be the one to come under scrutiny, as it would arrive in decent iPad-sized form factor, coupled with a high-resolution display and a quad-core processor.

Brabus B63S 6x6 sixes up the Messe

We didn't think things could get any more bonkers when Mercedes-Benz released the G63 AMG 6x6. But that's before we landed in Frankfurt and saw what Brabus has done with the beast. The Benz tuner par excellence has applied its B63S performance package to increase the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8's output from 536 horsepower up to 690 and from 561 pound-feet of torque to 708. Driving through all six – count 'em, six – wheels, that's enough to propel the four-ton colossus from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 7.4 seconds, which is mighty quick for what essentially amounts to a six-wheeled tank.

Hamann M6 Gran Coupe is all flared and shiny

Oh, Hamann. After rolling out the ridiculously pink Mystère at this year's Geneva Motor Show, the tuning company has worked its mirror-finishing magic on the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, debuting this, the aptly named "Mirror" at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It sure is shiny, and a full 40 millimeters wider than the standard M6 GC. Hamann says that the, um, "tailor-made suit" exterior treatment is made up of a new front bumper spoiler with large air intakes, side skirts, a new rear spoiler, and wing extensions out back. And the end result is... well, let's just call it noticeable.

eBay Find of the Day: This is what an AMC Pacer with a $55k resto looks like

We'll be the first to admit that AMC Pacers don't send tingles of excitement down our backs when we see them. Truly an innovative car for its time that fell a bit short on delivery, the Pacer developed a cult following that appreciates its functional funk. It was designed to be as spacious as a full-size car inside and as small and aerodynamic as possible on the outside - function over form doesn't make this thing beautiful. But no matter how innovative Pacers were, or how valuable they are today, it's hard to imagine somebody would spend $55,000 on restoring one. But that's just what the seller of this 1975 model eBay find did.

We're glad to learn that is no longer the case. The goods

The Android app looks to have been competently designed, with Microsoft striking a decent balance between Android and “Metro”-esque design.

The official Twitter app optimized for Android tablets has leaked out. At Samsung's Unpacked event in Berlin, quite a few people spotted the new Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet running a tablet optimized version of the official Twitter app. It isn't available to the public as yet, however the apk file has been leaked, which can be used by anyone willing to test the app out on their Android tablets. At first glance, one can notice that the app's user interface is quite similar to the one that Twitter rolled out for its iPad app over a year ago.
