We land in Barcelona, as the MWC gets ready to kick off

We land in Barcelona, as the MWC gets ready to kick off

Hello from Barcelona. WeÂ're already in position in the capital of Catalonia and we are eagerly expecting for the MWC to kick off. The main event officially starts on Monday, but Huawei, Sony and HTC will have their press conferences tomorrow evening. This year we got plenty of announcements in advance with Samsung and LG both revealing their lineups for the event the previous two weeks. Still, tomorrow is quite a big day – Huawei looks to build on the success it had at CES with an even more successful MWC, while HTC will try to get back to the profitable ways by releasing the most powerful phone they have ever produced.

Microsoft to kill off Windows Live and Zune brand?

Microsoft to kill off Windows Live and Zune brand?

In addition to changing its logo recently, it looks like Microsoft might be doing some major overhauling with its brand names as well. Apparently Microsoft is planning to kill off Windows Live and Zune next week when it announces the preview version of Windows 8. No reason to why Microsoft plans to do it, but we can assume it's to bring everything together under one name instead of confusing consumers with multiple brands. After all, a lot of Windows Live services were accessible from non-Windows platforms via a web browser, which makes us wonder why it was called Windows Live in the first place.

Teenage Mustang wrecker gets his Tosh.0 Web Redemption

If you managed to read that title without falling into the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" trap, congratulations. You aren't a child of the '80s. "Tosh.0" finally got around to giving Joey, the kid who drove his father's brand-new Ford Mustang GT500 through the back wall of the family garage, a Web Redemption. As it turns out, the story was far worse than anyone imagined. The GT500 didn't even belong to the family when the gung-ho teen sent it careening through the carpentry.

Chrome Beta For Android Update Detailed – Breaks On Some Custom ROMs

Chrome Beta for Android has seen an update today that left many users scratching their heads. With no changelog under the “What's New” section in the Market, people had no idea what actually changed. One thing many people did notice was a major performance increase sending their browser into overdrive, scanning entire image archives of Selena Gomez in milliseconds. The other thing rooted users noticed, is the app is now all but useless after the update so for all you custom ROM flashers out there — PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

Obama reelection campaign launches auto bailout commercial

Obama reelection campaign launches auto bailout commercial

The 2008 economic collapse in the U.S. led to what many experts call the worst recession since the Great Depression. Among the many casualties of the recession was the U.S. auto industry, which (arguably) was saved thanks to $25 billion in cash from the Bush Administration in 2008 and another $60 billion from the Obama Administration in 2009.
The Detroit News reports that 51 percent of Americans opposed the bailouts, with more Republicans being against the moves than Democrats. We're guessing far more Michigan residents were in favor of government intervention than the U.S.

Samsung bezel-less Android phone a possibility

Samsung bezel-less Android phone a possibility

You know how slim Samsung flat screen TVs are these days. Well, it can be said that as TV technology progresses to include 3D capability, the overall size has gotten larger, slimmer, and the bezels are starting to disappear – which is a good thing, of course, for movie buffs who prefer to get their entertainment kicks right at home. Well, here is a novel idea – how about translating the entire thought of reducing the bezel size on smartphones as well. This is what the latest rumors are whispering about, if a report from MK News is to be believed.

Samsung Previews Their New Quad-Core Exynos Processors – To Make An Appearance At MWC?

At the International Solid-State Circuits Conference SSCC event in San Francisco, Samsung was one of the OEM's in attendance showing off their upcoming quad-core Exynos processors. While these powerhouses are still using the older Cortex-A9 architecture, the quad-core Exynos takes advantage of the 32nm manufacturing process making them smaller, and more power efficient. Boasting a performance boost of up to 26% faster than '11 chips, these Exynos chips use about 50% less power. As an added bonus, each core has the ability to be shut-off independently, further increasing power efficiency when needed.

Looks like black is the more popular choice with that particular phone as that version is safe. The EVO Shift 4G is also on the list. It was a mid-range alternative to the main EVO line with its unique keyboard compared to other EVO devices.

Remember, just because these devices will soon be off store shelves doesn’t mean you won’t be able to buy it elsewhere or get software updates.

Patent application hints at Voice Actions for Google TV

Patent application hints at Voice Actions for Google TV

Android on your phone can send texts, perform searches, set alarms and execute plenty of other tasks with little more than a simple voice command. Google TV is, for all intents and purposes, just Android blown up to fill your 42-inch TV — so it would only make sense that Voice Actions might one day come to the Mountain View-branded set top solution. Well, a patent application filed back in September hints that just such a thing is on its way. Rather than require new hardware though, an Android phone would act as an intermediary, passing commands to the Google TV device.

As promised yesterday, Panasonic unveiled the specifications of their Android smartphone dubbed the Eluga, expected to debut on the European market this March. The poorly named Eluga is powered by a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor and 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which we have come to expect from high-end droids these days. At the front we find a 4.3-inch OLED display with qHD 960 x 540 pixels resolution.
It's also water- and dust-proof with NFC on-board. Remarkably, this hasn't made the device as thick as one might expect.
