Android 4.3 rolling out for Galaxy S4 and One Google Play edition

The Google Play editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One are receiving an OTA update that will upgrade them to Android 4.3. The update arrives merely a week after it was officially announced and started rolling out for the Nexus devices. In fact, many of the Nexus devices are still to receive the update, so you can say the Google Play editions are more or less on par with the Nexus devices in terms of receiving updates.
When Google announced the Google Play edition of the S4, they promised quick updated along with a stock Android experience.

iblazr Hopes To Bring A Better Flash Unit To Your Smartphone

iblazr Hopes To Bring A Better Flash Unit To Your Smartphone

While our smartphones do a pretty good job these days at taking photos, for the most part smartphone camera flashes do leave a lot to be desired as they usually render photos pretty harsh. This is possibly due to the type of flash used, and the fact that they cannot be adjusted to bounce off ceilings which would cast the subject in a softer light. Well if you thought your iPhone could do with a better flash unit, Kickstarter project for a device called iblazr might be one worth checking out.

Nobel Prize Economists Criticize Software Patents, Claims They Inhibit Innovation

Patent wars are pretty common these days in the tech world, where companies are suing each other over infringement of certain pieces of hardware technology, while others are suing over software features. Granted some of these cases do get out of hand and drag on for too long, but given that some companies spend years developing their technology only to have it "stolen", we can see why they are so determined to fight till the end to make sure they are compensated for it.

Moto X Will Not Be Arriving In The UK

Moto X Will Not Be Arriving In The UK

Earlier today the Motorola Moto X smartphone was finally revealed to the masses in all of its official glory, and while its hardware specs weren't exactly on par with what some of the high-end Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, and Sony Xperia Z are offering, it makes up for it by being extremely customizable. In any case it seems like a pretty solid handset but unfortunately for those living in the UK, it seems that the Moto X will not be making its way over to you guys. According to the folks at Pocket-Lint, they have been told by a Motorola spokesperson that the current Moto X will not be available in the UK.

NVIDIA SHIELD teardown shows clean, but complicated assembly

NVIDIA SHIELD teardown shows clean, but complicated assembly

Our review of the NVIDIA SHIELD popped up yesterday, and we discussed a ton of things. One thing we didn't get to discuss, however, was how easy the thing could be repaired. Quite frankly, we're just not ballsy or insane enough to try and pry any of these devices open on our own. That's why we're thankful for folks like iFixIt, who are glad to do the dirty work of taking devices apart and putting them back together.
Beneath the SHIELD is no surprise — a bunch of circuitry and silicon keeps its gears rolling. The assembly beneath the chassis is interesting, though, as it's quite complicated. It's clean, but complicated.

PS4 And Xbox One Games Could Cost 37% More In Australia

Companies such as Apple and Adobe have been questioned by the Australian government in the past over why their products are priced higher in their country, even after conversion which makes certain products a lot more expensive than their North American equivalents. While Adobe has caved to the Australian government's demands, could Sony and Microsoft eventually cave too. If you're wondering what we're talking about, Choice Online from Australia  has reported that it is possible that Australians can expect to pay a lot more for PS4 and Xbox One games.

Compact Camera Shipments Down By 42.7% According To CIPA Report

Back in the day when our phones did not come with cameras, the need for dedicated cameras, whether it be a cheap compact or a professional DSLR, were still needed. These days our smartphones are more than capable of taking impressive shots, leading some camera manufacturers, such as Nikon, to express their concern over how the compact camera market is shrinking. Well it looks like Nikon's fears weren't unfounded thanks to a new report by CIPA (Camera and Imaging Products Association).

Jaguar readying SUV for Frankfurt debut

Jaguar readying SUV for Frankfurt debut

In an effort to target higher-volume vehicle segments, Jaguar is getting ready to introduce its first-ever crossover, and Autoweek reports that we could see it debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. We've heard in the past that the new Jaguar crossover could carry the name XQ, but the report also mentions that the Q-type name is still in the running (now wouldn't Audi just love that?). A little more clear than the crossover's name, AW says the cargo-friendly Jaguar should ride on the same platform as the upcoming Jaguar XS compact sedan rather than using a Land Rover platform.

Next Kia Sedona minivan spied

After skipping the 2013 model year and returning for 2014, the Kia Sedona is getting a full redesign for 2015, which we see for the first time in these new spy shots. The new Sedona isn't going to look as much like the 2011 KV7 Concept as we had hoped, but we definitely see some key styling cues from the Kia concept minivan. Even though it's covered in heavy camouflage, we can see that some of the KV7's cues on the 2015 Sedona include the vertical front marker lights, the horizontal taillights and the pinched beltline starting at the C-pillar.

Microsoft To Rename SkyDrive Following Court Verdict

Microsoft To Rename SkyDrive Following Court Verdict

You might be familiar with SkyDrive, Microsoft's cloud based data storage. The company has put in a lot of resources in to building up this brand, particularly in the competitive cloud storage niche where you have players like Dropbox and Apple's iCloud. Recently, a UK court gave its verdict on a lawsuit brought by BSkyB, which claimed that Microsoft was infringing on its trademark through the SkyDrive brand. The court ruled in favor of BSkyB. Both companies have now reached a settlement.
Microsoft won't be appealing the court's verdict, meaning that it is going to rename SkyDrive.

Even though American Suzuki Motor Corporation filed for bankruptcy last year and stopped selling cars in the US and Canada as part of its reorganization, there are still plenty of countries around the world where Suzuki continues to sell autos. For those markets, the automaker is working on a compact sport-utility vehicle, called the iV-4, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Suzuki says the iV-4 "embodies the basic ruggedness of an SUV," and that its styling is modern and innovative.

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!).
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G.

You may remember only a few weeks ago when we saw a schematics sketch allegedly from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3′s manual. In that same post, we also got a brief look at the device being worked on inside a testing facility. Now we get to see what's inside the darn thing thanks to the Chinese microblogging site Weibo, where one user was able to snap a picture of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (traveling down a toilet?), exposing the device's innards for the world to see. Really, there's not too much revealed in these photos. You may have noticed a very squarish looking body, with distinct sharp corners.

Lack of 35mm film, replacement parts putting hurt on America's drive-ins

Drive-in movie theaters turn 80 years old this summer, and, soon, they might die of old age. There are only 360 drive-in theaters left in the US – down from 4,000 at their peak in 1958 – and the 35-millimeter film projectors that they use to screen movies are quickly losing support from studios, which have switched to digital methods of capturing pictures. Remember the four-foot poles with speakers built in. You'd pull your car up to it, park, and open your windows to listen to the movie. Well, there's only one company left that makes parts for those speakers, and they don't support surround sound.

The scores posted by the potent GPU were pretty impressive, wiping the floor with the devices we have tested so far. Chrysler banks $507 million in Q2, trims 2013 earnings forecast

Chrysler has some good news and some bad news. First, profits were up 16 percent over the second quarter of 2012, bringing the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based manufacturer $507 million on the back of strong demand for trucks and SUVs (a recurring theme this quarter, particularly in the US). Q2 revenue was up as well, from $16.8 billion in 2012 to $18 billion in 2013. The bad news is that the Pentastar's overall earnings forecast for net income in 2013 has been trimmed from $2.2 billion to between $1.7 and $2.2 billion, according to Automotive News.

Sprint finally gets the LTE wheel turning again with 41 new cities

It's no secret Sprint has been a bit slower than the big boys when it comes to bringing LTE to its customers. The network got off to a decent start, but hasn't quite hit the rollout pace that competitors AT&T and Verizon have. That might be changing, though, as Sprint's latest round of launches have gone live… and the list is huge. There are 41 cities being drenched in coverage.
Big names like Brooklyn / the Bronx, Oakland, Nashville, Philadelphia, Grand Rapids, Fort Lauderdale, Greenville, Daytona Beach, Tulsa, and more are all included. You can find the entire list at the source link.

Apple's products, whether you love or hate them, are highly desirable and we have heard stories where Apple's retail stores have been robbed. While some robberies are outside jobs, we wouldn't be surprised if some theft occurred internally as well, which is why it isn't surprising to learn that Apple has made it mandatory to check the bags of employees before they go on lunch or end their shift, to make sure that the employees have stolen merchandize or have taken out items without permission, along with contraband.

Well that's what the folks at Blue Goji hopes to do with their new game. CarmaRace board game seeks funding on Kickstarter

CarmaRace board game seeks funding on Kickstarter

Automotive geekery isn't just limited to internet forums, dingy garages, or coffee shop parking lots. It extends far beyond that, actually. Board games - and we're talking the complex ones with rulebooks longer than The Grapes Of Wrath, not Chutes and Ladders - are actually a fairly popular outlet for auto enthusiasts. Take the wildly addicting Formula D, for example.
The problem with board games is that they are often too long and complex to be played on a whim. CarmaRace aims to change that, by delivering a game that is both easy to learn and difficult to master, making it a bit like Risk.

Indian Grand Prix in jeopardy?

BBC Sport is reporting that Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One boss and indicted briber, has said the Indian Grand Prix will "probably not" happen in 2014. The race, which takes place at the purpose-built Buddh International Circuit, is in danger due to a combination of reasons, including Ecclestone's desire to move India from its current slot in October to the beginning of the season, in March or April. According to the BBC, this is to accommodate a schedule envisioned by Ecclestone that adds races in Austria, New Jersey and Russia, in addition to the current 19-race calendar.

Ah, we certainly have seen the fair progression of robot technology over the years, haven't we. In fact, it was just late yesterday evening when we talked about how the Veebot would come in handy in drawing blood from your with a far higher accuracy rate than that of a human should it make its way to hospitals eventually. Now here is a robot that dabbles more of the opposite of science, which is obviously the realm of art. Sylvia Todd, a 12-year-old who happens to have this particular passion for robots, has come up with a robot that she has named as the WaterColorBot.
