Nokia Lumia 910 pops up in developer tool, has us chasing phantoms

The often rumored Nokia Lumia 910 has proven to be an ephemeral spirit so far. If the company's Remote Developer Access tool is an indicator, though, it may become corporeal before too long. A Nokiapoweruser reader has spotted the phone's name hanging out as one of the selectable devices. Unfortunately, we're not getting much more than that: there's no hardware specifications lurking about that we know of.

BlueMic Tiki Knows What to Record and What not to Record

The Tiki Microphone from Blue Microphone is a USB mic that offers two different recording modes. Intelligent Speech Mode has the ability to isolate desirable sounds like voices so that it can minimize background noises like typing, computer fans, etc. It can even mute the mic if needed. This feature improves vocal clarity for online communication like Skype, iChat, and voice recognition software. With a push of a button, you can toggle into the Natural Recording Mode, which is best used for capturing vocals or music like a guitar with little extra processing like the Intelligent Speech Mode's noise cancellation.

Verizon Galaxy S III has locked bootloader (but it's been rooted anyway)

Based on Samsung's hacker-friendly track record, you'd generally expect one of it smartphones to come with an unlocked bootloader, making it easy to update or tweak with unofficial ROMs. That's not the case with Verizon's imminent version of the Galaxy S III, however. As the folk at XDA know only too well, this particular iteration of Sammy's flagship comes with a sealed bootloader, which makes it resistant (though not impervious) to hackery.

Samsung finds exploding Galaxy S III was due to 'external source', owner says it was a 'mistake'

Remember the melted Samsung Galaxy S III that surfaced in an Irish forum a few weeks ago. Samsung said they were looking into it and, along with a third party investigation, have decided it occurred as a result of "external energy" being applied to the device, not anything from within the phone itself. The damage is apparently consistent with the phone going in the microwave. The original poster dillo2k10 has posted an update on Boards.ie, indicating it was a mistake by someone else in an attempt to recover the phone after it got wet.

Are Google's fancy glasses perfect for the porn industry?

A few years ago, adult film producer Joone of Digital Playground told me that mobile phones are much more attractive to the porn industry than a PC or the TV, because they are personal devices and offer the viewer more privacy, potentially removing content purchasing barriers. As Google's fancy digital glasses coming up, I am wondering how much more personal a content viewing device can be – and how much better it could get for the adult industry. Apparently, the interest of these glasses currently surrounds the capture of POV videos (point-of-view), which may work very well with a pair of glasses.

"Cars have become an appliance. And on top of that, you start feeling a bit guilty about driving a car, because it pollutes, you use a lot of gasoline." These are the words of Henrik Fisker, car designer and the man who startes his own automobile company which currently builds and sells the extended-range electric Karma sedan. "Why do electric cars, or small fuel-efficient cars, always have to look dorky. Why can't we make a beautiful, gorgeous car?" Well, if you're the man who penned the BMW Z8 and a couple of show-stopping Aston Martin coupes, you don't have to design a dorky EV.

Cisco has already tried to soothe angry customers by scrapping a key section in its new Linksys privacy agreement - a clause which allowed the company to monitor a person's internet history via their router. However, realizing that probably wasn't enough to quell the sense of intrusion, it's now gone one step further.

Motorola will be launching its first Defy smartphone to feature a full QWERTY keyboard together with a touchscreen display in Brazil next month. It's called the Motorola Defy Pro, and just like the original Defy model, it is dust-proof, water-resistant, and scratch-resistant – thanks to Corning's Gorilla Glass display. But those who prefer a full QWERTY keyboard on their mobile devices will find the Motorola Defy Pro nifty, as it is both equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen display. Another cool thing about this smartphone is that it features instrumental dashboards to help you plan every step of your day.

Sometimes FCC filings are rife with details. T-Mobile and ZTE aren't playing that game right now: a device has shown up at the US agency bearing only the T-Mobile Aspect name and a ZTE F555 model number. That already tells us that it's likely to have 1,700MHz 3G inside, but the rest is left to our imaginings. It could be anything from a humdrum basic feature phone to a hotspot or future smartphone. We're hoping it's something as sleek as the upcoming Athena, but it could be an adaptation of mid-tier devices like the Mimosa X or a Windows Phone like the Orbit.

This certainly doesn't come as a huge surprise given where Acer has been focusing its attention as of late, but it looks like the company is truly intent on shedding its image as a low-cost brand - at least in Europe. Speaking with TechRadar, an Acer spokesperson said that "it can be a slightly conflicting message," referring to it also offering computers under its Packard Bell brand, and that "Acer is moving away from the lower end." In this case, Acer is defining low-end as under £400, or roughly $600, although it says there will be some crossover.

More official details are emerging from Beats Electronics' acquisition of MOG, and they paint a considerably messier picture of the deal than we saw just a day ago. HTC (which has a big stake in Beats) has confirmed that the move into streaming music was worth $14 million - not a whole lot considering that MOG had raised $33 million through its entire independent lifetime. The low price might come as the result of Beats being very surgical with its deal. The Jimmy Iovine- and Dr. Dre-founded outfit is taking control of the core audio service as a separately-managed company, while the ad and music blog components are mostly left untouched.
