iOS 6 Increased Adoption Rate Due To China iPhone 5 Launch, Not Google Maps

iOS 6 Increased Adoption Rate Due To China iPhone 5 Launch, Not Google Maps

It was a little over a week when Google Maps was re-released onto iOS, was on top of the App Store and earned itself over 10 million downloads in the first 48 hours of its availability, and because of that, mobile ad company MoPub deemed it being the sole reason why iOS 6 adoption grew 29%. But it seems that report may have been a inaccurate as other factors outside of Google Maps being made available probably weren't considered in MoPub's report. Last week didn't only mark the release of Google Maps, but it also marked the official release of the iPhone 5 in China, which comes pre-loaded with iOS 6.

MetroPCS Launches ZTE Avid 4G

MetroPCS Launches ZTE Avid 4G

MetroPCS is not stopping on it barrage of budget-friendly handsets; most recently being the Android-based ZTE Avid 4G. Compared to its pricier cousins, this smartphone sports a slightly smaller 4-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, the same 1.2GHz dual-core CPU of unspecified brand, and a more updated Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The device also comes with a 5-megapixel camera on the back, a VGA-quality shooter at the front, native LTE connectivity, and–for an additional monthly charge–the ability to turn into a mobile hotspot.

Skype App For Windows 8 Devices Updated

Skype App For Windows 8 Devices Updated

We all know by now that Microsoft picked up Skype recently, and for what looked like a bargain price considering how Skype has continued to grow in strength from time to time. Well, having said that, you will not be able to remain at the top or even move forward if you do not improve, and Microsoft knows this very well, which is why they have introduced a minor update for Skype app in Windows Store for Windows 8/RT devices.

Apple's iPhone accounts for about a quarter of smartphone shipments in Japan

While Apple's launch of their iOS products in China recently didn't exactly receive the same amount of furor their previous releases had, we guess the Cupertino company can still take solace in knowing that over in Japan, Apple remains the most popular mobile device, trumping not just Samsung, but local manufacturers at the same time.

NASA's Z-1 Prototype Spacesuit Is Beginning To Look More Like Buzz Lightyear

NASA's Z-1 Prototype Spacesuit Is Beginning To Look More Like Buzz Lightyear

NASA has finished testing its Z-1 prototype spacesuit. The Z-1 spacesuit, which was first revealed in July, was praised for its versatility. Today, we are looking at the rough final design of the prototype. Judging from the image above, which shows the spacesuit's large hemispherical transparent dome and classic white suit with bright green stripes on it, it interestingly bears a passing resemblance to the fictional character in the Toy Story franchise – Buzz Lightyear.
The key design of the Z-1 prototype spacesuit is its large port that has been attached to its back.

Petrolicious drinks in the glory of two Datsun Roadsters in wine country

The latest Petrolicious video, entitled "Napa Valley Roadsters," features high-def footage of Japanese metal rolling though beautiful California hill country. Specifically, the classic two-liter Datsun Roadster. Like many of the Petrolicious videos that proceeded it, this is a celebration of the personal connection that one has with an automobile. What's more, it's always heartwarming to see how a mutual interest can bring two complete strangers together, who are now close friends.

New iMac With 3TB Fusion Drive Doesn't Support Boot Camp

New iMac With 3TB Fusion Drive Doesn't Support Boot Camp

As impressed as we were with the new iMac, it looks like early adopters may have something to be unimpressed with as they may not be able to run Boot Camp, depending on which iMac you pick up. Some users are waking up to the fact that the 27″ iMac combined with the 3TB Fusion Drive is unable to Boot Camp, which allows Mac owners to run Windows on their computers which may be necessary for gamers and business users who absolutely need Windows to make full use of their Mac. Not that we reported on this iMac limitation  during the official launch, so this is not “news” for say, but it looks like a refresher is in order.

Slovakia gets super with Praga R1 (video)

Slovakia gets super with Praga R1 (video)

Yes, bare-bones roadsters like the Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow are nice, but we can't help but feel those machines are held back by their (quasi) street legal status. What we want is a carbon fiber track animal. Something like the Praga R1. The Slovakian-built racer reads like a personal wish list for going faster. With a curb weight of just 1,261 pounds dry and 210 horsepower from a Renault four-cylinder mounted amidships, the R1 should be a blast to fling around a road course.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.

Samsung To Fix Exynos Shortcomings

Samsung To Fix Exynos Shortcomings

It was just recently when we brought you word that the Exynos 4210 and Exynos 4412-powered devices do come with major vulnerability flaws, and it is a good thing that Samsung has taken note of this particularly galling situation and done something about it, working hard to fix the hardware issues. In fact, Samsung hopes to get this fix out as soon as possible, as with all the other device owners that have both the Exynos 5210 and Exynos 4412 running at the heart of things.

Ford to counter GM's new trucks by offering peek at 2015 F-150 in Detroit?

With the Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra all getting major upgrades recently, there has also been plenty of speculation how Ford will respond as it looks to maintain its title as America's best-selling truck. Last week, Automotive News reported that Ford is looking to make a significant fuel economy gain with its 2015 F-150, and now Reuters is saying that the automaker will be offering some sort of peek at the new truck at next month's Detroit Auto Show.

GM manufacturing robots take up second job as present wrappers

GM manufacturing robots take up second job as present wrappers

It isn't that uncommon for people to pick up second jobs during the holidays to help relieve some of the financial stress, but apparently our automaton friends feel the fiscal pinch this time of year, too. A handful of General Motors assembly line robots are picking up some extra shifts at Santa's workshop this year wrapping presents. In addition to stuffing and wrapping boxes, the robots' duties also include spot welding labels onto the gifts (who even knew that was possible?).

Facebook Preparing To Launch Video Ads Within News Feeds By April 2013

It's almost 2013, which means you probably have a Facebook page and have come across a few ads during your time with the social network of choice for anyone with a pulse. As of now, the ads haven't been too intrusive as the majority of them are tucked away to the side of your news feed, with a few leaking into your feed due to a friend “Liking” an ad. Apparently these ads are going to become more animated as Facebook is looking to ad video ads to your news feed.

Vettel and Schumacher win 2012 Race of Champions Nations Cup for Germany, again

Vettel and Schumacher win 2012 Race of Champions Nations Cup for Germany, again

With so many different cars, competitions, rulebooks and drivers gunning for wins each weekend in various racing events all across the world, how do you go about crowning the best of the best. Put more simply, Who is the best racing driver in the world. No single event or series is ever going to answer that question properly, but the annual Race of Champions at least does a good job of choosing the most talented drivers in their respective disciplines and lining them up against each other and the clock.
There are actually two winners, one country and one driver.

2014 Maserati Ghibli prototype spied for the first time

2014 Maserati Ghibli prototype spied for the first time

Looking to better compete with mainstream luxury automakers, Maserati has already announced its plans for expanding its model lineup. Now, these spy shots give us our first look at a new, smaller sedan that resurrects the Maserati Ghibli nameplate. Seen for the first time as a prototype rather than a Quattroporte-based test-mule, this is the closest-to-production view of the upcoming Ghibli thus far. Aside from its name, we don't know much about the 2014 Ghibli, but we do hear that this Maserati, like the upcoming Maserati Levante SUV, will have a direct lineage to a Chrysler product.
