Hitachi Wooo 3D TV Includes Control from iPhone or iPad

Hitachi has announced last week that it will no longer produce TVs domestically (in Japan) by the end of 2011, but that doesn't mean the company will not go out in style. Just a few hours ago, six Hitachi Wooo TVs were announced in Japan, including a 50-incher 3D model P50-GP08. While this 3D TV could be Hitachi's last self-produced flagship model, its specs remain very impressive.

Nokia takes 2 million Windows Phone 7 handsets next month?

Rumor has it that Nokia will begin to receive its first batch of Windows Phone 7-powered devices when September rolls around – according to media in Taiwan, of course. Local contractor and regular Nokia supplier Compal is touted to ship a cool 2 million of such smartphones in time for fall, and this nugget of information came from local investment firm worker and former tech journalist Dan Nystedt. There is no exact shipping date just yet, but you will be able to get the right date after 30 guesses if you're down and out on your luck.

HTC Bliss Says Hello to the FCC

HTC Bliss Says Hello to the FCC

The female-centric HTC Bliss for Verizon has made a stop at the FCC following a few leaks. It’s come with Verizon’s CDMA radios inside alongside radios for use around the world. We still don’t know a whole lot about the phone, but we can at least expect this thing right before Q4 rolls around as it has been rumored to launch September 29th. If you don’t remember, the HTC Bliss is supposed to be a stylish phone meant for women. While we aren’t huge fans of gender separation when it comes to technology, Verizon might have a good idea on their hands to attract another demographic to Android.

Microsoft has recently shown off the details of a project that's been dubbed “Kinect Fusion”. While it isn't exactly new, reporters that saw it earlier this year weren't allowed to record videos or take photographs at the event. However after the SIGGRAPH computer graphics conference this week, Microsoft finally released a video to show us what KinectFusion is all about - and it sure is amazing. Here's an explanation of what KinectFusion is about:

We present KinectFusion, a system that takes live depth data from a moving depth camera and in real-time creates high-quality 3D models.

Apple may unveil iPhone 5 on September 7th

Apple plans to hold this year's “iPod media event” on September 7th, Japanese-language news site Kodawarisan reported on Friday. The company's September event has historically been dedicated to the iPod line, with Apple having unveiled its latest iPod touch, iPod shuffle and iPod nano models at last year's event. With a new iPhone model due to be released in September or October, however, it seems very likely that Apple will use its annual September media event to unveil the iPhone 5 rather than just refreshed iPods.

It may not have been the best kept secret around, but Google's now made what's surely the biggest addition to Google+ in its short lifespan: games. Unlike a certain other social network, Google says games in Google+ are "there when you want them and gone when you don't," meaning that they won't flood your main stream if you never play them - you have to click the games icon at the top of the page to play and see updates from your circles.

Mercedes-Benz confirms second shooting brake model

Wagon enthusiasts, rejoice. Late last year, Mercedes-Benz confirmed that its curvy CLS Shooting Brake concept (pictured) had been approved for production, and now, Automotive News reports that a smaller version is in the works, as well. Recently, we showed you spy shots of Mercedes' upcoming CLC-Class – a four-door coupe based off of the platform that will underpin the automaker's A- and B-Class vehicles. Like the standard four-door CLC, the shooting brake will be offered with a range of direct-injected, four-cylinder engines (likely with turbochargers), and will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive.

The new Fifth Avenue cube, now with fewer ugly seams. Picture: Apple. Apple, famous for pushing materials to their limits in order to make ridiculously thin and strong gadgets, is doing the same for its flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City. A remodel of the already perfectly good design will see the amount of glass panels of the iconic cube reduced from 90 panes to just 15. It seems that Apple's minimalism knows no bounds.

Rescue robots could be lifesavers in fires

Technology is wonderful if it is applied in the correct manner, and here we are with rescue robots which are programmed to help evacuate people from a burning building. Granted, they are small and extremely mobile, that means it cannot carry those who have already fainted. Still, this robot can alert emergency personnel to injured or trapped people, according to US researchers who are knee deep in the project.

Android fanatics will be ecstatic to hear about the news we have for them today. Some leaked photos of Google's next Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, have been unveiled online. RootzWiki and AndroidPolice have posted pictures of a Nexus S running on a blue theme skin. The notification bar has been improved as well. Other changes include: the camera now has a panorama mode, a newly redesigned Gmail app which is supposed to go with the new design of the OS, a new launcher and an app drawer.

We aren't a hundred percent sure if this is actually Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but the evidence looks pretty convincing.

Apple Launches Lion Recovery Disk Assistant

Apple finally admits that if your boot drive fails, you can't boot from your boot drive. It's easy. Download the 1MB application (from Apple's support site, not from the Mac App Store) and run it. You'll be prompted to connect a USB stick and warned that everything on that stick will be erased. Agree, enter your password and wait for a minute or two, and that's it.

This Recovery Disk obviously doesn't contain the full Lion installer. Instead, it acts like the Recovery Disk Partition that Lion hides on your boot drive when you first install it.

Let's face the facts – sex sells, and so it is no surprise that Zara Dampney, 24, and Shauna Mullin, 26, have managed to market their bottoms into their bottom line (pardon the pun) through the inclusion of a Quick Response (QR) code being printed right on their derriere. The whole idea. Since they are beach volleyball players who are already widely photographed for their (ahem!) athleticism and physique, why not take advantage of the situation and include some advertising space on a skimpy bikini.

We have no doubt that Sony Ericsson is extremely proud of the display on their Xperia Arc, which uses the Bravia engine. So much so that they have teamed up with McCann Erickson, Munich and developed a campaign that was centered on and inspired by the urban environment, while at the same time promoting their Xperia handsets by showing what people can do with the device's screens. The project, dubbed "Challenge", faced its first challenge when they attempted to make a flower bloom with the help of the Xperia's screens. Can't wait for August 12th for Nintendo's 3DS price drop to take effect. Good news, neither could two giant retailers, apparently. Walmart reportedly got the ball rolling yesterday, cutting the asking price down from $250 to $170 in-store, and Target quickly followed suit - the price is still listed as $250 on both sites for the moment. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata acknowledged late last month that the drops, officially scheduled for August 12th, were due to concerns from retailers and game designers.

In for Review – Seiko 5 Sports SNZF45

TweetEmail. This Seiko 5 Sports model was given its infant nickname because it is not a true dive watch, boasting just 100m of water resistance and a crown which does not screw down. What this white-dialed Seiko lacks in marine-readiness it makes up for in price as this Japanese automatic can be had for less than $150 brand new and still features a stainless steel bracelet, Seiko's 7S36B automatic movement, and about as much lume as Seiko can cram into a single watch. Very few brands with Seiko's history and experience are making automatic watches at this price point.

Fret not, as a team from The University of Electro-Communications popped by this year's installment of SIGGRAPH in order to showcase something entirely more vicious. It's air hockey meets bumper cars, and the InteractiveTop demo was certainly one of the stranger ones we came across here in Vancouver. Given the fierce competition between iOS and Android, it's not surprising that Apple may eventually plan to move away from Google Maps and instead come up with something on their own. Actually this isn't exactly a secret as it seems that Apple already has some of the framework in place, but as to when they will be able to roll it out still remains unknown. A patent that was recently discovered by Apple Insider is indicating that Apple's maps will simplify things to the user by providing the most relevant information in the given situation.

While I can't speak for the masses, having a USB stick containing the operating system will be handy when you want to format the computer and require a reinstall.

Sony is reportedly “under major pressure” to cut the price or risk a major failure. But as reported on Thursday, Sony doesn't see any need to cut the price despite Nintendo's drastic move to regain lost revenue.

“We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable,” Sony Corp. Executive Vice President Kazuo Hirai told reporters at Sony's Tokyo headquarters.
