Lenovo Brings Bendy Display Design to NEC Via LaVie Y Hybrid Tablet

Lenovo's Japanese partner NEC is set to offer a variant of the bendy IdeaPad Yoga 11 to its kawaii shores. Just like the IdeaPad Yoga 11, the NEC LaVie Y is a combination of a laptop and a tablet as its display can be folded over to tuck the keyboard away. This 11.6-inch gadget features a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. But the similarities will end there, as the LaVie Y comes with a custom NEC app within what could be a watered-down version of Windows RT.

The NEC LaVie Y convertible PC will arrive in stores around November 22nd, days before the Lenovo IdeaTab Yoga 11 becomes available.

Formula One's inaugural Grand Prix of America, not to be confused with the US Grand Prix slated for mid-November in Austin, TX, has been postponed until the 2014 F1 season. F1 head honcho Bernie Ecclestone has reported that the event, previously expected to take place in Weehawkin, New Jersey in 2013, has now been pushed back by a year. The Associated Press is reporting Ecclestone as having said, "Everything is set up but now it's too late to finish on time." The New Jersey race had tentatively been scheduled for June 16 of next year.

Auto industry cites raw material cost, easy credit as two biggest concerns

A whopping 93 percent of automotive OEMs and suppliers say they have seen an increase in demand for their vehicles, parts and services in the past year. Those numbers are reported in the 2012 Dykema Automotive Institute Survey: Industry Challenges. Due to the jump in business, 77 percent surveyed said they had "made substantive changes" to handle the growth. But the study wasn't all good news. A third of survey participants said they expected raw material costs to be a significant challenge in the coming year.

Analysts predict that the iPad mini will eat into the iPad's sales

Render by Martin Hajek. The 23rd of October is when Apple is expected to announce the iPad mini (amongst other rumored products). However with the announcement of the iPad mini, many are thinking that this would eat into the sales of the iPad, although exactly how much of the iPad's sales it would eat into remains a mystery. However a couple of analysts have come forward with their own predictions, starting with Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster (via AllThingsD), who predicts that the iPad mini could eat into 20% of the iPad's sales.

Air Force flying saucer seen in declassified documents

So all the furore surrounding a flying saucer has a source, and unfortunately for X-philes, that would mean there are no extra terrestrial lifeforms out there to contact. Recently declassified documents by the US Air Force have depicted a flying saucer that seems to hail from a Cold War-era plan. The whole idea was to construct a round, vertical take-off and landing aircraft, and what else would you call this other than a flying saucer.

Samsung and LG 55-inch OLED TVs delayed to 2013

If you were getting excited about the prospect of paying $10,000 for a 55″ OLED TV from Samsung or LG, this may put a damp on your project. Both companies will probably won't ship their television in 2012. According to market researchers, it is simply very hard to mass-produce those panels with acceptable yields (ratio vs. good and defective units) so that selling those new TV is a profitable business.
Yields have always been a problem with displays in general. This comes from the fact that the larger a display is, and the more likely there will be a problem somewhere on it that makes it unusable during manufacturing.

So we know that the Nokia Lumia 920 will be an exclusive to AT&T, while this might be good news for AT&T subscribers, it might not be for those on other networks who might want the Lumia 920 but don't want to switch carriers, and at the same time don't want to buy it unlocked at its full retail price. Well according to the folks at WPCentral, one of their sources have tipped them off that the Lumia 920 will be an AT&T exclusive for a good six months, which means that after that hopefully the other carriers will add the Windows Phone 8 handset to their portfolio.

A couple of days ago, we talked about the new Xbox 360 dashboard update rolling out to the masses, and here is an interesting bit on this new dashboard update. Apparently, Microsoft has raised the USB storage capacity to 32GB, making good use of the ton of USB flash drives that you own from trade shows and the ilk, turning those into a viable storage option. Previously, the accessible storage of a USB device on the Xbox 360 stood at 16GB, regardless of how much storage the plugged in USB device has. This is definitely good news for those who own an Xbox 360 without any large capacity hard drive inside.

The EU officially wants Google to collect less data

The Nobel Peace Prize-winning European Union has its eyes set on a new regulatory target–Google. Today, French regulators associated with the EU sent Google a letter with an ultimatum: Google has four months to change its privacy policy because of concerns about the way the internet giant collects and holds personal data. The document came with 12 recommendations for Google to bring their privacy policy into compliance with European Union regulations. . One of the primary concerns the regulators shared was Google's ability to combine anonymous data with Google's own data to better target advertising.

Uber shuts down New York City taxi beta, may see light at the end of the (Lincoln) tunnel in February

Uber has been having a tough time getting a foothold in New York City, and it's temporarily withdrawing the UberTaxi service it had in beta. The withdrawal isn't entirely for the reasons you'd expect, however. While Uber claims to have been getting grief from the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission for offering a competing (if technically legal) service through its smartphone apps, the program's end was due to demand rather than any kind of outright ban - the Commission's pressure reportedly kept Uber from matching interest with enough yellow cabs. Black car service is still on for those who don't mind the classic ride.

When the Progressive International Motorcycle Show decided it wanted to build some buzz for its upcoming show, it knew that the "chicks on bikes" formula had already been played out. However, turning models (in this case, extraordinarily talented yogi-models) into the motorcycle hadn't ever been done before. A brainstorming session along those lines led to a completely original photo shoot, wherein a group of artists and athlete models created some very wild images. In the video here, you'll see the full story of how the concept became a reality.

Ubisoft developer says Wii U GamePad response time is ‘crazy' fast

. Gamers worried about the streaming latency for the Nintendo (NTDOY) Wii U GamePad can finally let out a sigh of relief. In a recent Nintendo Power interview, Rayman Legends developer Michel Ancel said the Wii U GamePad latency is “just 1x60 of  a second” or roughly “one frame late.” To the human eye, that's virtually unnoticeable.
The impressed Ancel said, “It's crazy, it's so fast. It's almost instant. That's why it responds so well. So it can be used as a real game-design thing.”

It's been confirmed that the Wii U should be able to stream content over to the GamePad at distances up to 24 feet.

Even as automakers move to increase the number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell vehicles and hybrids, internal combustion technology is not standing still. In fact, Audi believes that the future will see a mix of propulsion technologies and that internal combustion can play a role in producing vehicles that have minimal CO2 impact on the environment. As shown by Toyota's recent announcement to slow-walk EVs, the industry is looking into other alternatives besides pure electrics to meet ever-tightening Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards and zero-emission mandates like those enacted by California.
