Chrono Trigger hits the App Store, lets Square Enix fans turn back time

Square Enix just couldn't resist plucking at our heartstrings - not to mention willing bill folds. As a timely holiday treat, the company's made good on its end-of-year promise, delivering the SNES RPG epic and cult hit - Chrono Trigger - to Apple's App Store. If you're wielding either a third generation and up iPhone or iPod touch, the endless hours of non-linear, time-traveling gameplay can be yours for the re-hashing, albeit on a maddeningly tiny screen. That 16-bit nostalgia won't come cheap, either, at $10.

AMD Radeon HD 6000 cards receive VESA DisplayPort 1.2 certification, merit badges

When the certifications come in, you wipe a tear from your eye and ponder how proud you are. On Thursday, the Video Electronics Standards Association announced that AMD's Radeon HD 6000 series graphics cards, including the high-end Radeon HD 6990, are the first to receive DisplayPort Version 1.2 certification. That means the cards are rated to support DisplayPort's 5.4Gbps HBR2 data link speed and also feature increased display resolution, color depths and refresh rates, plus improved support for Full HD 3D stereoscopic displays.

Paul Stender returns with cruise missile-powered Impala

It was the urban legend to top them all, the one every car guy wants to be true: Dude straps a jet engine to his Impala and goes for the ride of his life, which, of course, ends with his death. Even though it dates back to the 1960's, according to rumor-debunking website Snopes.com, it was the first big Internet-fueled urban legend, spread across the world in 1995 by then-novel e-mails with subjects like "Darwin Award Winner.". Of course, there's no such thing as the Darwin Awards. But now, finally, there is a JATO-powered Impala.

New Galaxy S2 Ad Reiterates That “The Next Big Thing Is Already Here” [Video]!

The new ad follows the same storyline as the previous reels in the series. It opens around showing Apple customers lined up outside Apple stores waiting to get their new iPhone while the passers who happen to be using Samsung Galaxy S2 phones steal the show leaving the “fanboys” bewildered. It's a precise but a neatly done act that shows Samsung Galaxy S2 as a device that outperforms the iPhone 4S (this time in the ease of accessing movies and music).

Samsung scores another win as Australian tablet ban is overturned

. A ban that prevented Samsung's local subsidiaries from marketing and selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Australia was lifted on Friday, marking another victory for Samsung in its ongoing legal battles with Apple. An Australian High Court ruled that Samsung's 10-inch tablet does not “slavishly rip off” Apple's iPad, and sales of the slate will resume next week according to The Sydney Morning Herald, in time to catch the tail end of the holiday shopping rush. Read on for more.

The ruling comes following Apple's appeal after a judge overturned a ban on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales late last month.

Macro-Lens Embedded in Rubber Band Fits Any Phone

This might just be the smartest and simplest cellphone add-on lens yet seen. It's called the Macro Cell Lens Band, and it is little more than a macro lens embedded in a rubber band. The widget comes from the photo-gadget supremos at Photojojo, and thanks to its simple design it will fit onto pretty much any cellphone (although some of the latest giant-screen Android handsets might be stretching it–literally).
You can wear the band around your wrist, Livestrong-style, letting the lens collect sebum and skin flakes until you need to take a close-up picture.

Car plows through restaurant after driver confuses pedals

Hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake is an altogether too common occurrence, one that often carries deadly consequences. Thankfully, that wasn't the case here. ABC News is reporting that three victims in a crash at a San Diego, CA, restaurant suffered only minor injuries after a woman drove her car through the front door. Surveillance video captured the whole episode.
The driver was pulling into a parking spot when she apparently confused the pedals and plowed into a patron exiting the busy restaurant. After her Honda Accord entered the building, she hit two more diners before swerving to the right to narrowly avoided hitting others.

No one likes waiting for software updates, but preparing such an update for release turns out to be a tougher ordeal than most people suspect. Sony Ericsson detailed their procedure of updating, which explains why we'll have to wait a while before they release the promised Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update, even though the ICS source code has been out for weeks. The first stage is to merge the changes brought about by ICS into Sony Ericsson's own source code and to resolve any issues that might arise from the merge.

Shigeru Miyamoto to focus on smaller, personal projects

Shigeru Miyamoto to focus on smaller, personal projects

All good things must come to an end, and it is a rather sad to hear that the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, will no longer spearhead massive games and projects, but will instead step down from his current position to work on smaller, more personal projects. I guess his swansong would be the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land, both of which were released this year, and this passing of the baton to younger designers might see a change in game design philosophy. Hopefully future Mario and Zelda titles will continue in the spirit of Miyamoto by his padawans.

China's own Motorola RAZRs have arrived, and have plenty to differentiate themselves from the Verizon-coated version available in the US. Thankfully, our colleagues over at Engadget Chinese have managed to get some intimate hands-on time with the dual-SIM capable XT928. Whether it's the upgraded 13 megapixel camera, or the 4.5-inch HD display crammed inside, this Motorola mobile arrives slightly chunkier than the RAZR we're used to. In fact, it looks more like a distant cousin than a simple variant. A not-particularly tapered backing is now removable, giving access to the two SIM card slots.
