Eurocom intros powerhouse Scorpius laptop, touts more video memory than most desktops

Eurocom has carved out a strange but soft spot in our hearts for its desktop replacement-level laptops - the insistence on overkill hardware leaves even the vaguely ultraportable Monster packing the kind of power reserved for larger-screened (if also much thinner) counterparts. Nowhere is that too-much-is-never-enough attitude truer than in the just-launched, 17.3-inch Scorpius. While supporting up to 32GB of RAM isn't unique anymore, the Scorpius can optionally carry two of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 680M graphics chips with the full 4GB of video RAM per piece. That's more graphics memory than the total system memory of some entire PCs, folks.

RIM to cut 3,000 jobs next week, will be axing 2,000 more later this year

Tough times call for tough decisions. Sadly for Research In Motion, that meant axing a huge chunk of its workforce to stay alive while patiently hoping for a better start next year. RIM's plan to cut jobs was first heard in June this year. Now, an insider has confirmed the news to BGR that the company will begin the layoffs next week. The “trusted source” said that more than 3,000 employees will be axed beginning next week, and that the layoffs will continue over the next couple of weeks.

Even worse is the news that the workers over at RIM are reportedly terrified because they don't exactly know who's going and who's staying.

Car dealer accidentally sold BMW for $1, honors the sale in spite of mishap

We've seen just about every mobile device around eventually going on sale in the long haul to as low as $0.99 or even free on contract. But for a BMW. Man, that's extremely rare. But it happened anyway this week in New Zealand. A car dealership there, named Stadium Cars, accidentally sold a 1994 blue BMW 320i online for just $1. And soon enough, the sweet sounding mistake caught the ears of one Trade Me buyer named ”bignz” who is reportedly from Rangiora – a rural town in the South Island of New Zealand.

An inside look at Porsche's other, secret museum

Almost every museum has a private warehousing facility, to hold items that don't fit in its public viewing space or perhaps to hold the originals of works that it doesn't want to risk to the hands of the masses. Jaguar, for instance, calls the secret overflow space it uses for its Heritage Center "Sleepy Hollow.". The $130 million Porsche Museum has 505 cars in its collection, but they aren't all on display at all times.

BikeCharge Dynamo lets you juice up your devices while you cycle

Pedal power – now this is definitely one of the greenest ways to get around the neighborhood, where you not only save money as you do not burn precious fossil fuel, you also get to enjoy a decent workout in the process. With the BikeCharge Dynamo installed onto your bicycle, this mounted DC generator is said to be compatible with majority of the smartphone brands out there, and a full charge would more or less require approximately 2 to 3 hours of pedaling.

Apple starts selling refurbished ‘new' iPads for $50 less than MSRP

Back when Apple's third-gen slate was originally unveiled to the world, the company very quietly slashed down the prices of its first and second generation refurbed iPads. Now, some five months after its triumphant launch in the US of A and other countries, Cupertino's started selling the pixel-packed new iPad for 50 bucks less than the original price — that's if, of course, you don't mind a refurbished unit. Still, as we've said before, Apple includes a one-year warranty with each iPad sold via its “Certified Refurbished” online store, which is considerably better than any Craigslist deal you might find out there.

HTC in Hell

HTC in Hell

. This HTC warning was different. There has been a stream of them since last November, but the latest one broke the back of Wall Street's strongest HTC bulls, who finally gave up their Buy ratings. The reason is simple: HTC (2498) had just rolled out its big new product range that was supposed to go head to head with Samsung's (005930) Galaxy and Apple's (AAPL) iPhone ranges. Major flagship phones rarely flop badly - but if they do, the worst-case scenario is debuting a new line in the spring and then facing a grim slog to a fallow Christmas season.

HTC is probably the least diversified phone vendor outside Apple.

US Army's LEMV spy blimp spotted hovering over New Jersey, may take up cargo duties (video)

The US Army's not-so-secret Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) spy blimp is better at staying hidden than we thought. if unintentionally. Although it was due to fly the friendly skies of Lakehurst, New Jersey in mid-June, Northrop Grumman's usually unmanned surveillance was only just caught floating over the Jersey Shore as part of a maiden flight on August 8th. The conspicuous, delayed test run proved that the LEMV could take off, steer and land smoothly, and started a series of exercises that should culminate in combat trials over Afghanistan at the start of 2013. OS X Mountain Lion reportedly draining MacBook batteries faster than its predecessor

While OS X Mountain Lion might be Apple's latest operating system at the moment, it might not really be the greatest as far as MacBook Pro users are concerned. According to a test conducted by Ars Technica, they have discovered that there might be evidence to suggest that it could be draining battery life on MacBooks faster than its predecessor, OS X Lion. Their test results have shown that they have lost about 38% of runtime after upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion. This is compared to the 8 hours they managed to achieve with Lion versus the 5 hours they got with Mountain Lion.

A recent market study reveals that Samsung–along with Android–continue to dominate the smartphone market, which puts added pressure from Apple to “wow” the consumers with the launch of its new handset next month. The survey from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech covers millions of interviews with consumers on a monthly basis, showing that Samsung remains the top-selling smartphone brand in Europe as of July 2012. Samsung's success is partly because of its successful launch of the Galaxy S3 last May, as well as aggressive pricing in a region mired with economic pressures.

With Google Spreadsheets in Google Docs, the Internet search giant has decided to introduce the idea of Protected Ranges, making it possible to modify a section which a collaborator did not intend to be edited. This is the reason why the Named Ranges feature in spreadsheets has been updated so that you are able to protect them.

GoPago is a mobile application that people can use to “end the lines” at local stores. Basically, folks can browse and order for food/drinks from local stores with their smartphones. The interesting bit is that stores which accepts Gopago payments typically have a “fast lane” where the order is waiting for the customer, hence the absence of line/wait. Great for lunch, right.

Mitsubishi still mulling selling Mirage in U.S.

Let's be honest: The current Mitsubishi lineup here in the United States is mediocre at best. More to the point, its small car offerings like the aging Lancer and miserable i-MiEV are some of the slowest-selling cars in two of the most highly shopped segments. And with no replacements or updates for either in sight, things indeed look bleak. But that doesn't mean new Mitsu metal won't be hitting our shores.
