Mod-3 Radius case for iPhone 5 review

Mod-3 Radius case for iPhone 5 review

. For some reason I can never find a case for my iPhone 5 that I truly like.  The truth is, the iPhone 5 feels great in the hand, and most cases spoil the smooth, sleek design.  The Mod-3 Radius case (provided by BiteMyApple.co) protects the corners with a bare minimum of bulk.  Here's a closer look.

The Mod-3 Radius case comes in a plain box  Nothing fancy.  That's fine, because you'll be mesmerized by the simple elegance of the Radius case.

You'll also find a small bag with an Allen wrench and four tiny screws.  These are spares.  That's good, because they are TINY.

The Radius, removed from box.

Motor Trend holds World's Greatest Drag Race for the third time

Motor Trend holds World's Greatest Drag Race for the third time

As part of Motor Trend's Best Driver's Car competition, the buff book has held its third iteration of the World's Greatest Drag Race. With an airfield and a dozen of the world's finest performance cars at its disposal (oh, and a helicopter), the MT team did what any good group of enthusiasts would do, and tried to figure what car could cover a quarter mile the quickest. World's greatest drag race, indeed. The contestants, as MT points out, cover a huge variety of engine types, drivelines, aspiration types and body styles, making for a genuinely varied and interesting field of competitors.

Sony A3000 (ILC-3000) Rumored To Cost £300 For Body-Only

The other day we reported on rumors that Sony could be looking to launch an entry-level E-mount camera under the A3000 moniker, or ILC-3000 as it could be known in other parts of the world. So how much are we talk about when we mean entry-level. Well according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they have received a tip in which the A3000 has been revealed to cost around 300 GBP for the body-only, which we have to say isn't too bad. There will also be a version where it will come bundled with a kit 18-55mm lens but no word on how much that could cost.

Back in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2013, Apple unveiled the refreshed MacBook Air lineup with Intel's latest Haswell processors. The new Air models offer improved performance and increased battery life, the company claims the 13 inch MacBook Air now provides 12 hours of battery life. Rumors were circulating prior to WWDC 2013 about MacBook Pro models being refreshed as well, but the company didn't mention anything about its Pro lineup at the event. According to a new report, Apple might start shipping Haswell based MacBook Pro models from next month.
The report comes from EMSOne, a supply chain monitor based in Hong Kong.

A look into how Ron Howard's Rush got financed

A look into how Ron Howard's Rush got financed

Producing the upcoming 1970s Formula 1 movie Rush wasn't like the old days, when a mid-budget film could be pitched with a good chance it would be financed by a major production company. No, even after famed director Ron Howard jumped on board the F1 biopic of legendary drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda, he couldn't use his clout at Universal Studios to persuade the company to finance it, Variety reports. Universal cited the film's biopic elements and F1's low profile in the US as reasons not to produce it, but the company did agree to handle US distribution.

HTC One, QWERTY-touting LG Enact and LG Exalt flip phone now available at Verizon

Right on schedule, the HTC One has become available to buy from Verizon today. This comes after many months in which the carrier nicknamed Big Red has dragged its feet when it came to launching it. But alas, it's finally here. Not alone, though. The One has been joined in Verizon's portfolio by two LG-made devices, the Enact and the Exalt. These got leaked as part of a roadmap a while back, and now they're listed on Verizon's website – both of them.

The HTC One can be yours for $199.99 with a new two-year contract, as you'd expect.

BMW Concept X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid headed to Frankfurt

With six confirmed public debuts scheduled for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW is definitely going to have its hands full. While we've already driven models like the 4 Series and the i3, one of the more interesting introductions is a "concept" plug-in hybrid version of the new F15 BMW X5 called the BMW Concept X5 eDrive. As the second concept to wear the eDrive name, this X5 combines a 95-horsepower electric motor with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to balance performance and efficiency.

Ubuntu Edge campaign fails to meet its $32 million target

Ubuntu Edge campaign fails to meet its $32 million target

The ambitious Ubuntu Edge smartphone project has met its untimely demise, at least as far as the Indiegogo campaign is concerned. Back in July, Canonical started a campaign to raise $32 million in 30 days for the Ubuntu Edge smartphone, a device with the kind of specifications that dreams are made of. The crowd-funded campaign had a strong start, amassing over $2 million in the first eight hours and going on to hit a record amount of over $10 million, the highest for a crowd-funded campaign, beating the likes of the Pebble watch (which is an actual product at this point).

C7 Corvette Stingray could get start-stop tech to save fuel

Chevrolet chose not to include fuel-saving stop-start technology in the 2014 Corvette Stingray package, but future Corvettes may get it as government-mandated fuel economy requirements are raised. To explain why the launch-year model doesn't have the technology, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter simply says, "It is more mass and more cost," Edmunds reports. As sports car enthusiasts, we like the sound of that.

Police are choosing SUVs over sedans with greater frequency

Police are choosing SUVs over sedans with greater frequency

Our report on the newly EcoBoosted Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer to the rest of us), had a segment on the need for more space in police vehicles, due to the amount of equipment officers need to carry on a day-to-day basis. Judging by the comments from that post, there are some who question that reasoning. Now, though, there's further evidence supporting our claim that the police car isn't really a car anymore. Rather, SUVs are becoming the dominant vehicle for police departments around the country, according to a report from The Detroit News.

Nokia 'Bandit' Phablet To Have 6 Inch 1080p Display And 20MP Camera [Rumor]

Nokia's Lumia lineup of Windows Phone devices have been relatively successful in the market. The company has long been rumored to be working on a tablet as well as a phablet, which is basically a cross between a smartphone and a tablet. Phablets have displays larger than conventional smartphone but smaller than 7 inch tablets. According to The Verge, Nokia has a 6 inch 1080p display touting phablet up its sleeve, codenamed “Bandit.” Said to be one of many 1080p Windows Phone devices that Nokia will release in the future, the Bandit is reportedly powered by a quadcore Qualcomm processor.

The Sony Xperia Honami is rumored to have a relatively big 1x2.3x20.7MP image sensor as well as a 28mm, F/2.0 Sony G lens, but we've only seen one camera sample. A few more have leaked, but unlike the first one, these were shot at 8MP resolution. The first sample was shot with an Xperia Honami running software 13.1.G.1.443_9.b600, while the new samples seem to have been taken with a newer firmware, 14.1.G.2.86_9_f200.

Here is another device that has gotten its benchmark results on AnTuTu leaked out – where it is anonymously known as FJDEV009. The Fujitsu FJDEV009 is most probably a smartphone that will remain specific to the Japanese market alone, which is more often than not the case for many a Japanese smartphone.

Design Love: Yahoo! Weather

Design Love: Yahoo! Weather

I, for one, am glad to see the increasing positivity around Yahoo. Ever since Marissa Mayer was appointed CEO a little over a year ago, the stock is up over 80%, several acquisitions have meant they've added interesting products like Tumblr as well as top-notch developer teams and Flickr looks like something worth using again. And, if the Yahoo. Weather app is anything to go by, someone there seems to know how to put together a decent design again.
Back in June, Apple awarded Yahoo its prestigious Design Award, saying:

Yahoo! Weather stands apart with its simple, uncluttered, and beautiful visual design.

Redesigned PS Vita Rumored For Launch In September

While we know that Sony will be launching the PlayStation 4 later this year, it seems that Sony might have plans to introduce a new PS Vita as well. According to The Magic Box, they have reported that based on an article in a Japanese newspaper, apparently Sony will be introducing a PS Vita handheld console in September, possibly during the Tokyo Games Show. The new PS Vita is expected to sport a new design with a larger  display that will bump it up to 6.3", although its resolution will remain at 960×554, so technically its pixel density will be reduced, although how noticeable this is remains to be seen.

Galaxy S4 LTE-A International Variant Stops By The FCC

Samsung has released a handful of variants of its latest Android flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4. A few months ago we heard rumors for the first time that Samsung had a “faster” Galaxy S4 up its sleeve. This particular model was said to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor as opposed to the Snapdragon 600 processor on the model that had already been released. Its because this one has LTE-Advanced support, which can theoretically offer data speeds of up to 150 mbps.

Apple Rumored To Be Working On 'iTV' Yet Again

Over the last few months there have been many rumors suggesting that Apple might be involved in the production of a full fledged HDTV set. The company presumably wants to increase its presence in the television market, and perhaps it can't do that with the Apple TV, its $99 set-top box. Rumors about the HDTV have waned slightly in recent weeks, nevertheless, the latest comes from Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News. It is said that Apple is working with Foxconn, Innoloux, G-Tech Optoelectronics and Corning of Gorilla Glass fame for its HDTV which is widely referred to as the iTV.
