ASUS Zenbook UX32VD unveiled, packs discrete graphics to flaunt that 1080p screen

New high-resolution Zenbooks are on their way, but ASUS has now revealed another addition that's packing its own discrete graphics. Like its recently unveiled siblings, the Zenbook UX32VD still packs a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel and “the latest Intel Core processor” — likely something from the Ivy Bridge family, although ASUS is keeping schtum on the details for now. Graphical horsepower is delegated to NVIDIA's GT620, while the UX32VD also had a hybrid HDD on show at the event, not the standard SSD — explaining why this new model is slightly thicker than the UX31A.

Apple to introduce their own maps app in iOS 6?

WWDC will be held next month and it has been assumed that is when Apple will be introducing to the world the next major iOS update – iOS 6. So what sort of features can we expect in the next iOS build. If you have been following Apple news closely, you might recall that there has been talks of Apple possibly introducing a new map app of its own, ultimately dropping their reliance on Google Maps. This was suggested when Apple acquired C3 Technologies and thanks to 9to5 Mac's sources, it looks like iOS 6 will be when Apple will introduce their own maps app.

Nokia Lumia 850 Concept Phone

Nokia Lumia 850 Concept Phone

With all the various concept designs that we've seen for the iPhone, it is only right that now a fan of the Nokia Lumia range has come up with his own version of what an imaginary Nokia Lumia 850 should look like. To clarify, there is no such thing as the Lumia 850 currently so this is neither a leak nor a rumor. It's just a concept that is the result of a designer from Luxembourg with the handle, BrianMFB who is expressing himself. The concept is similar to a Lumia 800 that has been slimmed down but it still retains much of the original character. The rear-side of the phone is designed to have tapered edges and flush mounted side buttons.

Samsung Galaxy S III: Pentile Super AMOLED used 'because it lasts longer'

Nice processor, shame about the Pentile. It's something that several people have been saying about Samsung's new chest-beating flagship. So why didn't it plump for the warmer Super AMOLED Plus found on both its predecessor and the bigger-boned Galaxy Note. According to Samsung's spokesperson, it's because those blue sub-pixels that are absent on Super AMOLED displays degrade faster than their red and green allies. With the aim of keeping its phones healthily glowing for at least 18 months, it made the decision to go with the Pentile formation.

GE Makes 27W A19 LED Bulb With 100W Equivalent Light Power

Just when you think that more and more people would embrace LED bulbs as a more cost effective alternative to power hungry incandescent bulbs, the opposite seems to be true. Many people don't seem to be too keen on replacing their incandescent bulbs just yet. If the reason is that most of the LED bulbs available just can't seem to compare to those incandescent bulbs in terms of brightness, this new development from GE might just change their minds. The company has just come up with a 27-watt LED bulb that can come up with light comparable to that of a 100-watt incandescent light.

Wi-Fi Blocking Wallpaper Could Improve Wireless Security

Wi-Fi Blocking Wallpaper Could Improve Wireless Security

The answer to better Wi-Fi security could lie on the surfaces of a wallpaper. A team of French researchers at Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble was able to develop a wallpaper that can allegedly block Wi-Fi signals. Working together with Centre Technique du Papier, the researchers claim that the wallpaper prevented Wi-Fi signals from being transmitted beyond the confines of an office or apartment. If you will observe the photo above of the said wallpaper, you will notice that it has a triangular snowflake-pattern.

Microsoft patent points at pressure-sensitive gaming controllers

Some people like to hold their game controllers differently and all this boils down to personal preference. It seems that Microsoft has thought of that too which might explain a patent the company filed for back in 2009 that suggested that they were looking at pressure-sensitive gaming controllers. What this basically does is that the controller will be able to recognize the player depending on the pressure-sensitivity that is being exerted onto the controller while they're playing it. Admittedly not the most unique identifier compared to fingerprints, but it's still a pretty interesting idea anyway.

Chrysler recalling 471 minivans over liftgate issue

Chrysler has already sold over 84,000 minivans this year, but an unfortunate few were built with defective liftgate sensors. The 471 vehicles with the bad parts include both Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan models, all of them 2012s built in March, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report. The power liftgates are supposed to stop during automatic closing if they detect resistance, but NHTSA says the recalled vehicles could malfunction, and "may close on an appendage." Owners should keep their arms and legs safely inside the vehicle and look for notification from Chrysler this month.

A very small number of HTC One X owners are experiencing a bug that causes incoming messages to arrive without an accompanying notification. The bug, which occurs intermittently, has been acknowledged by HTC and a fix is apparently in the works. Those experiencing the issue see no notification in their status bar nor a badge on the Messaging shortcut on the homescreen indicating a new message has been received. Instead users have to open the Messaging app to check for new messages.
The problem appears to be affecting all versions of the One X, including AT&T’s recent release.
