The Pink Lake

The Pink Lake

Yes that's the true color, not any photoshop work. It is called the Lake Retba aka "The Pink Lake", Senegal. It is located at the north of the Cap Vert peninsula of Senegal, north east of Dakar. The lake is pinker than milkshake and it is pink because of cyanobacteria (Dunaliella salina) – a type of harmless halophilic bacteria found in the water.

Pavegen Generates Power When You Walk

Pavegen Generates Power When You Walk

Green energy solutions are starting to become mainstream these days, and as always, when they come in the form of passive technologies, those tend to work. How about an idea that requires the general public to chip in – that is, they do not need to actually force themselves to use it specifically, and neither do they need to change their lifestyles, but just trample all over i. This is where the Pavegen comes in, which is the brainchild of an inventor from the UK. Laurence Kemball-Cook is the one behind the Pavegen system, where it will convert kinetic energy from footsteps into usable electrical energy.

15,000+ Sandy-ravaged cars headed for auction

According to the most recent estimates, Hurricane Sandy inflicted upwards of $60 billion in damage to the Northeast when it hit last October – one of the most destructive storms in history. In addition to the life and property losses, officials believe that more than 200,000 vehicles in the New York area alone were damaged by water from storm surges, flooding and rain. Parked on the tarmac, taxiways and runways 14x32 and 5x23 at Calverton Executive Airpark in Riverhead, NY, are 15,000 of those vehicles – representing just a small portion of the total affected – awaiting their fate.

Apple To Deliver 802.11ac Compatibility To Upcoming Macs [Rumor]

It's safe to say if you're reading this post, you're using a device with a wireless connection as the days of wired connections are slowly going off into the sunset. Sure, wired connections are more reliable, secure and faster than wireless, but if today's rumor turns out to be true, we can be sure speed won't be a deciding factor when deciding between wired and wireless connections. According to sources familiar with Apple's plans for their upcoming Macs, the company has made a deal with Broadcom to supply chipsets compatible with 802.11ac.

Those who love to check out what is new on the crowdfunding scene would definitely find another Android-powered console to be an interesting proposition, where it is known as the GameStick. The Kickstarter campaign for the GameStick was kicked off by casual game network PlayJam, where they hope to raise $100,000 in order to fund the development of an Android-powered console that looks more like a standard issue USB flash drive than anything else, where it will retail for $79 a pop when available.

When Google Glass was announced last May, we're sure you were as impressed with the device as we were. Having that much power right on your face has us waiting for its debut in 2014 with much anticipation, although Google itself is having some trouble figuring out features they should include with the Google Glass experience. In an interview with IEEE Spectrum, Google Glass project lead Babak Parviz disclosed what Google has planned currently for it:.
“We have mentioned some basic capabilities, like taking a picture and sharing it. We are experimenting with a lot of things.

California DMV opens door to reissuing classic license plates

California DMV opens door to reissuing classic license plates

Like in the UK, California's license plates follow the vehicles they originate on, not the owner, so residents can easily pick out cars that have been in continuous California circulation since way back in the last millennium. A car with yellow tags with black lettering was registered between 1956 and 1962, one with yellow tags with black lettering is from circa 1963 to 1969, and one with blue tags with yellow lettering got them sometime from 1970 to 1982. State Governor Jerry Brown has signed a bill allowing for the return of those plate styles.

Bentley unveils 202-mph Continental GT Speed Convertible

That purple haze all in your eyes is the 2013 Bentley GT Speed Convertible. The cynical view is, "Bah, take a GT Speed and cut the top off. There. Pass the salt, please...". But when you're Bentley, more than 90 years old, and charging these kinds of ducats, there's no reason to take the cynic's shortcut.

Why everyone loses but the lawyers in Toyota's unintended acceleration settlement

Why everyone loses but the lawyers in Toyota's unintended acceleration settlement

The Toyota settlement recently submitted to US District Judge James Selna for approval will cost the company anywhere from $1 billion to $1.4 billion. All to settle the class-action suit brought against it for economic losses stemming from claims of unintended acceleration. This suit only addresses the perceived loss-of-value that Toyota owners and lessees feel they have suffered, alleging their cars were the victims of unintended depreciation even if they did not directly suffer from the alleged cases of unintended/sudden acceleration.

Jumbled Text Messages Could Be Indicative Of A Stroke

Jumbled Text Messages Could Be Indicative Of A Stroke

We've all seen funny screen captures where the autocorrect function of our smartphones results in rather embarrassing and unintended messages, but at the same time it looks like maybe the next time you receive a jumbled text message, there is a slight chance that this could be indicative that the sender could be having a stroke. According to a report, a man in Boston received a couple of text messages from his wife where he could not understand what she was trying to say.
