Many consumers still unwilling to buy electronics online

The advent of online shopping changed the retail industry forever, but many consumers are still not willing to shop for consumer electronics online despite potential cost savings. New data from market research firm The NPD Group shows that while nearly two-thirds of U.S. consumers use the Internet to research consumer electronics purchases, only about half go on to purchase electronics online. ”It's not surprising to see that so many consumers won't buy TVs, smartphones, and other popular CE products online, despite using the Internet to perform basic product research,” said NPD analyst Stephen Baker in a statement.

Motorola Admiral looks ship shape, headed for Sprint in the US

We caught wind of the Motorola Admiral early last month among a group of handsets all headed for US carrier Sprint. Beyond the name this device was effectively an unknown, with no spy shots or spec leaks that we could readily find available. The device in question has now made its first notable appearance on the interwebs so let's take a look at what it has to offer.

Corsair unveils Vengeance gaming headsets

We had previously reported that Corsair had unveiled new gaming keyboards and mice, and not content with just those peripherals, Corsair has also announced their new set of gaming headsets, which we think ought to compliment their Vengeance keyboards and mice, and with three to choose from – Vengeance 1500, Vengeance 1300 and Vengeance 1100 – there should be something there for everybody. The Vengeance 1500 and 1300 are the two top end models that Corsair is offering gamers. The difference between either model is that the 1500 offers support for 7.1 and 5.1 Dolby Headphone positional audio.

RePro3D is a 'touchable' 3D interface that lets you poke pixies (video)

RePro3D is a 'touchable' 3D interface that lets you poke pixies (video)

The illusion of 3D is kind of ruined the moment you reach out and try and grab whatever silly thing is supposed to be protruding from the screen. Researchers at Keio University in Tokyo have started to figure out a solution to the problem, and are calling their system RePro3D. By combining a glasses-free 3D display with an infrared tactile interface, they are able to create a holographic model that responds when "touched." The next step for the team is to provide feedback via a wearable device, adding the sensation of touch to the already impressive illusion of interactivity. We do have our concerns about the researcher's motives however.

Recon Instruments gets NASA Desert RATS eyes-on with Micro Optics Display, lets them see the future

Outer space. The words alone conjure images of high-tech gadgetry and mind-blowing scientific research - that is to say, the future. But what if we told you our best and brightest cosmic explorers were still relying on arm-mounted post-it notes to guide them through spacewalks. Yes, that would be Staples in space. Luckily, Recon Instruments has partnered with NASA Desert Research and Technology Studies to test two variants of its GPS-enabled Micro Optics Display for use in next-generation spacesuits, and get our space agency a wee bit closer to the P.K. Dick fantasy we hold dear.

BlackBerry market share in Q2 may have hit single digits

BlackBerry market share in Q2 may have hit single digits

Research In Motion on Thursday reported another disappointing quarter. BlackBerry subscribers were up 40% year-over-year in the second quarter but RIM's net income plummeted by 60%, margins were squeezed, average selling prices of BlackBerry smartphones dropped and RIM managed to burn through more than half of its cash in a single quarter. Concerns are mounting, analysts are barking and RIM's stock fell off a cliff in after-hours trading. Tossing yet another concern onto the pile, RIM's global smartphone market share likely dipped into the single digits last quarter.

Apple lodges countersuit against Samsung in the UK

It seems like we can't get through a week without hearing about another Apple vs Samsung/Samsung vs Apple lawsuit. For those who haven't been keeping track, both companies have taken their patent war to a global scale, with Apple chasing Samsung to Australia, then Europe where they got a successful injunction upheld in Germany and then taking it to Japan. Samsung then brought the fight to France, and earlier this year in June they sued Apple in the UK for patent infringement over wireless technology. Now it looks like Apple has countered Samsung's lawsuit in the UK with their own.

Expected to go on sale on September 22nd, the folks over at Droid-Life have managed to get their hands on some photographs showing the phone unboxed. Judging by its specs, the Pantech Breakout is expected to be the mid-range LTE device on Verizon's network so don't expect it to cost a fortune.

Wouldn't you be frightened if a gun were in your pocket. I mean, I know I'm sane enough to not take it out and shoot anyone, but the idea that I can possibly shoot myself while looking for a dollar for the soda machine doesn't really bode well with me. Of course, Plaxico Burress ended up surviving but I'm sure those two years he spent in jail for being so awesomely stupid could have better gone to other things (such as convincing the world that he's not a one hit wonder). Rimac electrifies with Concept One battery-powered supercar

As you can see from our coverage, there's been plenty to see and report from the halls of the Frankfurt Messe at the first major auto show of the post-summer season. But while most vehicles were displayed prominently under the bright lights in the big rooms, tucked away at the back of a supplier hall sat one of the most intriguing debuts of the show. Its modest location isn't all that's unusual about the Rimac Concept One. And when we say "unusual," we mean "all kinds of awesome." From its headquarters in Croatia (of all places), the electric propulsion upstart has crafted quite the stunning show car.

Volkswagen Unveils Nils Electric Car Concept

Volkswagen Unveils Nils Electric Car Concept

Volkswagen presents its electric vehicle concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which they call the Nils. What makes this car stand out is the sheer smallness of it because, apparently, VW envisions this car for the commuters of tomorrow. We guess this would go well in third world countries or in places where obesity is never an issue. The Volkswagen Nils has an itty-bitty 25 kilowatts (34 horsepower) of power, which it harnesses from a rear-mounted electric motor. Apart from being small, this car is also light at 460 kilograms (1,000 pounds) and can run for up to 65 kilometers (40 miles) in a single battery charge.
