Nokia had something to prove at its annual event, and an eight-month turnaround of its smartphone arm is certainly nothing to be sniffed at. While Nokia's first Windows Phone devices were undoubtably the stars of the two-day expo, there was plenty more to investigate - Nokia's legion of development labs certainly didn't let us down. Transistors of all shapes and sizes form the foundation of just about every electronic gadget under the sun, and similarly, cotton clothing is a key component of a well-rounded wardrobe. It was only a matter of time before these two got together to form a fashion-forward future, and an international team of scientists have accomplished the trick by creating a transistor using fibers of cotton. Now, this isn't the first organic transistor, but cotton's plentiful, cheap, lightweight and sustainable nature make it a great choice for use as a substrate in carbon-based transistors.

Rumor: Apple's upcoming HDTV will feature Siri Voice Control

Steve Jobs' “I've finally cracked it” comment was referring to using Siri as a means to access content on a television claims an Apple insider. An unnamed source close to Apple told the New York Times that Steve Jobs' comment of “I've finally cracked it” was referring to the use of Siri on an HDTV, not to an actual TV set. According to the report, Apple engineers and designers have been struggling for years to create a new interface for TV and replace the remote control. The goal is to give consumers a way to choose content on their television screen just as easily as they do on the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.

LG Optimus 2X will not be getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich

This one is surely much tougher to get over than in the case of Google Nexus One, folks. After all, the latter is almost two years old now. It appears that LG Optimus 2X - officially the first smartphone to feature a dual-core CPU, will not be getting an official update to Google's latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Here is what LG responded to a question regarding the Optimus 2X update in its official Facebook page:

Samsung C3330 Champ 2 coming soon with affordable price

Samsung is readying a successor to the very affordable Champ, which was the cheapest touchscreen phone in the company's portfolio when it launched last year. The C3330 Champ 2 is probably going to stay true to its predecessor's roots and keep the same main selling points – chief among them, the price. The Samsung Champ 2 will have the model number C3330 and will come with slightly upgraded specs compared to the original Champ.

AT&T announces a trio of new Windows Phones

Consumers looking to get Windows Phone devices from AT&T will be pleased to know that the carrier has got three WP 7.5 Mango phones on the way to the carrier. Starting with the Samsung Focus Flash and the Samsung Focus S - both phones will be available next week on November 6th, priced at $49.99 and $199.99 respectively. The Samsung Focus Flash features a 3.7″ Super AMOLED display, Windows Phone 7.5, a 1.4GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera and a front facing camera.

Garmin has announced another sports-related gadget this week. The Garmin FR70 Fitness Watch monitors your fitness stats and vitality details whether you do it indoors or out. Although this gadget comes from Garmin, the FR70 does not have GPS functions and only uploads the data it gathers to Garmin Connect once it is plugged into a computer. This fitness watch works compatibly with ANT+ devices ranging from heart rate monitors to foot pods and even stationary fitness equipment compatible with ANT+. It records stats such as speed, distance, and run cadence among others.

Humanix places airbags on the outside

Most of us would be able to resonate with the idea of airbags on the inside of a vehicle, but airbags on the outside. How is that suppose to protect you, the driver. Perhaps it is more of protecting pedestrians than the driver, but that is just my speculation. Humanix of Japan is the company behind this tiny electric car that has airbags on the body. According to Humanix, they claim their creation, the "iSAVE-SC1", to be the "safest electric vehicle in the world".

Asus' ROG (Republic of Gamers) is set to release Rampage IV Extreme, its flagship motherboard for the upcoming release of Intel's LGA2011 (Sandy Bridge E) processors. The Rampage IV Extreme has the standard red/black color scheme and comes packed with OC features and goodies. The motherboard supports both the LGA-2011 and LGA 1366 CPU coolers by switching out the standard LGA-2011 bracket with a custom Asus bracket, which provides support for LGA-1366 coolers. Blackberry Colt Specs Unveiled

The Blackberry Colt has been quite a lot of talk on the internet lately and now its specs have been leaked. Powered by RIM's BBX platform, the smartphone features a 4-inch touchscreen display, a 1.2GHz single core processor, a unibody stainless steel bezel, a front-facing camera and a rear-facing camera. A week ago we reported that thanks to an invitation, it appears that RIM and Porsche had plans to hold an event to unveil a new product. Unless Porsche was planning on releasing a new Porsche Blackberry sports car, it left little to the imagination at what sort of announcement that both companies were going to make, and now it is official. Both RIM and Porsche have announced the new Blackberry Porsche P'9981. The device isn't really groundbreaking in terms of technology, and it appears that this is more of a luxury phone.

Images and details surrounding the unannounced Motorola DROID4 for Verizon Wireless have been published on the web, revealing a potential QWERTY-equipped counterpart for the just-unveiled Motorola DROID RAZR. The phone appears to carry the same shape as the new RAZR, however its slide-out keyboard makes it significantly thicker. Purported specs include a 4-inch display, 4G LTE compatibility for Verizon Wireless' network, 1080p HD video capture support, an HDMI-out port, a secondary front-facing camera and Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

. There have been six smartphone distribution updates since Android was released: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread and most recently, Ice Cream Sandwich. One man, Michael DeGusta, decided to map out every release and every Android smartphone launched in the United States before July 2010. He then compared the revision updates to the iPhone. The results are a bit surprising, even if you're aware the Android market is fragmented. For example, DeGusta discovered that 7 of the 18 smartphones in his chart never ran a current version of Android.

UK court orders ISP to block Newzbin 2 filesharing site within two weeks, Hollywood smiles

Pirates just can't catch a break these days. Way back in July, a British judge ordered telecom company BT to block its subscribers from visiting a site called Newzbin 2, on the grounds that the ISP had "actual knowledge" of customers using the platform access copyright infringing content. An appeal was soon filed, but yesterday, it was shot down by a high court. Under the order, BT will have 14 days to seal off access to Newzbin 2, and will have to do so on its own dime - something the provider was aiming to avoid.

The rumors were not just rumors after all: Sony has officially announced that it's going to buy Ericsson's stake in Sony Ericsson - which was established as a joint-venture between the two companies back in 2001. The deal will obviously not affect the SE brand, so we'll continue to see Sony Ericsson smartphones being launched. The transaction is expected to close in January 2012, and will allow Sony to quickly "integrate smartphones into its broad array of network-connected consumer electronics devices - including tablets, televisions and personal computers - for the benefit of consumers and the growth of its business.".

It’s business time. Not because I am wearing my business socks but rather Motorola has announced their Pro+ 4G for Bell Canada. The enterprise-ready smartphone will make its North American debut on November 7th, bringing the power of a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 3.1-inch 640×480 display. OK, so it isn’t that powerful, but Motorola Pro+ 4G offers much more through its built-in security and productivity tools. The 4G of its name refers to HSPA+ connectivity with a theoretical limit of 14.4 Mbps. Pricing was not announced.

The iOS app for the iPad has just been given a significant update which adds a much requested feature to the app: live streaming capabilities. All you need is to be on the same network as your DirecTV receiver, and you're good to go - the iPad turns into a portable TV that you can bring anywhere without having to break a sweat. At the moment, not every channel is available via the app, but popular channels such as CNN, Fox News, FX, Discovery and more are available.

Visitors at the Nokia World exhibit got a surprise as a prototype product is prominently displayed in the showroom. The smartphone-like Nokia Kinetic has something that Apple and Samsung will not sue for patent infringement: A flexible OLED display. The device comes with an OLED display that can be bent and twisted to access menus, programs, and apps. This screen may have come from Sony or sourced from another manufacturer. Twist the device in opposite directions with both hands, for instance, to scroll through photo and music albums.

Nokia fans around the world may be focused on the company's two new high-end Windows Phone devices unveiled during Nokia World in London on Tuesday, but that didn't stop Nokia from revealing a handful of Series 40 devices, too. The Finnish phone maker revealed its “Asha” family of phones on Wednesday, which includes the Asha 200, Asha 201, Asha 300 and Asha 303. The higher-end Asha 303 is equipped with a 2.6-inch display, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 1GHz processor and more. The 300 offers an alphanumeric keypad, a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera and support for 3G networks.
