Robotically Steerable Probe aims at minimally invasive surgery, moves through gelatin like a champ

Who doesn't prefer to have the word "surgery" preceded by the phrase "minimally invasive?" During our trip to the Harvard research labs today, we were given a demo of the Robotically Steerable Thermal Ablation Probe, a device designed to help minimize the number of injections required when treating something like a tumor. The machine is guided by a x-ray image onto which a doctor can choose a number of destinations. Rather than being forced to re-inject the patient, the outer cannula moves up and down to locate the position, with a thinner curved stylet extends from within it, reaching the designated area.

Never mind the problems, car buyers still happier with hands-free tech

You've seen the opening to Annie Hall, right. Where Woody Allen tells the classic joke about two women grumbling about their dinner. The one complains that the food is terrible, while the other, agreeing, says the portions are too small. That's the automotive infotainment business in a nutshell.
JD Power spells this out in a new analysis of its 2012 APEAL survey.

Underwater camera that can tweet photos of swimmers used in London Olympics

It seems that sports fans and journalists aren't the only ones utilizing social media in the Olympics. The L2012 Pool Camera is an underwater camera that is based at the bottom of the pool, and yes it uses Twitter to tweet photos of Olympic swimmers in action. The L2012 Pool Camera's description reads: “I match the world's best swimmers, stroke for stroke. They speed along on top. I race along the bottom, always looking up – and always wet.”

The camera was first used in July 27 and its first tweet (with its first photo seen above) says,”In position under Lane 4.

Rumored HTC One X+ with 1.7GHz Tegra 3 revealed in NenaMark report?

We've heard murmurings of it before, but they've been just that. Now we've got the first shred of hard evidence that the fabled HTC One X+ is actually real. Rumored to be heading to T-Mobile (or AT&T, depending on who you ask), this 1.7GHz super phone popped up over at NenaMark's site, bearing the model number PM63100. Sadly, that internal moniker doesn't really reveal much, but between that and the fact that it's running Jelly Bean 4.1.1 we're confident this isn't something already on the market. And the reported resolution of 1280 x 720 combined with its high-speed Tegra 3 innards puts this squarely in flagship territory.

. When Apple (AAPL) introduced the iPhone 4S to the world last October, consumers were initially disappointed the handset wasn't the fabled iPhone 5. With added features like Siri and a dual-core processor, some early reviews labeled the smartphone as a minor update from the iPhone 4. The handset was an instant hit, however. Aside from standard praising, numerous professional photographers raved about the camera, which is arguably the best smartphone camera available today. In fact, the camera is so good that Guardian photojournalist Dan Chung has been using his iPhone 4S to capture the action at the London Olympics.

Samsung Galaxy S III wireless charging kits make their way to Verizon stores, will be yours for $89

The official, sanctioned-by-Samsung wireless charging kit for the Galaxy S III may be delayed until September, but that apparently didn't stop Verizon from making one of its own. One that it will start selling pretty soon. These wireless charging kits commissioned by Big Red have started to make their way into its stores. Phone Arena got some pictures of them from one of its sources.

The charger itself is going to be priced at $70, but apparently will be sold for $20 less than that for a while. You'll also need to purchase a special back cover for your phone too, which is made by Samsung and will set you back $39.

Resembling a browser, it offers question-and-answer forms, case tracking and an ability to share files across the bureau's network. Assistant director Jeffrey Johnson said that the biggest hurdle was convincing paper-loving agents to get on board, so the system is designed to nag users into adding relevant data that's still extant on dead-trees.

Dropbox has admitted that spam reported by its users over the last few weeks was the direct result of a security breach. Both login names and passwords were stolen from an unnamed number of users, including a Dropbox employee. That account contained a list of clients' email addresses, which is what the company believes led to the spam in the first place. In response, it has contacted those affected to protect their accounts and outlined several new security features. These include a two-factor authentication option coming in several weeks and a new automated feature that will check for suspicious activity.

House of Lords wants UK TV to go fully online and leave airwaves clear for cellphones

The UK House of Lords' Communications Committee has suggested that all broadcast TV should be moved to the internet to free up wireless spectrum for cellphones. In its report, the panel found that whilst such a network would be cheaper and more efficient in the long run, it would also require extensive re-building of the country's archaic communications infrastructure. Given that the analog-to-digital switchover is currently in progress, it seems unlikely that a further transition will be timetabled - especially since there are still concerns over the cost of bringing fiber-optic broadband to rural areas.

US intelligence agencies were just as obsessed with drone spying 40 years ago as they are nowadays - only then, it was pipe-smoking entomologists and watchmakers who were in charge of building prototypes. Back in the '70s, the CIA needed some kind of miniature flyer to deliver an audio bug, and after considering (and rejecting) a faux bumblebee, decided that a robotic dragonfly would be the best option. The wee UAV used a "miniature fluidic oscillator" as a motor and was propelled by a small amount of gas.
