Russian windshield wiper fix strings us up

Russian windshield wiper fix strings us up

Speaking to the effectiveness of ingenuity and improvisation, the string-pull windshield wipers in this Russian Lada work surprisingly well in the snow and the rainy weather. We wouldn't recommend practicing this MacGyver-like move unless it's absolutely necessary, but then again, there can't be too many Ladas in the US. So what's all the jesting about. We're told the car's occupants are joking about hand-wiper jobs, and the driver is cautioning the passenger not to rip the rope. That leads us to the tip of the day: remember to keep the wiping motion nice and slow to preserve the string.

Tony Stewart out 'indefinitely' after leg surgery

Tony Stewart out 'indefinitely' after leg surgery

Tony Stewart's passion for racing is likely going to prevent him from having a hope of capturing his fourth Sprint Cup Championship. Stewart currently sits eleventh in the championship, but after a second surgery for the broken leg he suffered in a sprint car crash earlier this week, his second wreck in less than two weeks, Stewart-Haas Racing says the 42-year-old veteran will be out of the car "indefinitely," according to USA Today.

2014 Porsche Panamera 4S Executive

If the idea of a Porsche sedan (or, long hatchback) is still off-putting to you, then you might want to look away now. For 2014, the polarizing Panamera has received a midcycle refresh bringing slightly different styling, as well as adding two new models to the lineup, the S E-Hybrid and the stretched-wheelbase Executive. Having focused most of my recent trip to Germany on a First Drive of the intriguing plug-in Panamera, I also got to spend some time with the roomier Executive model. Offered in both 4S and Turbo guise, the Panamera Executive has been stretched by almost six inches for the sole purpose of improving rear passenger space.

Leaked ASUS Presentation Slide Introduces New Devices

ASUS has had its fair share of hits and misses in the past, although the Nexus 7 as well as next generation Nexus 7, the Nexus 7 2, have proven themselves to be extremely capable tablets that offer the best bang for your hard earned buck – and the company itself does not seem as though it is going to slow down anytime soon, either.

Alleged Next-Gen iPad Front Panel Caught On Camera

Alleged Next-Gen iPad Front Panel Caught On Camera

Over the past couple of weeks we've seen various photos and even a video of the components of Apple's upcoming iPad. Well now thanks to a new listing by Macfixit Australia, front panels and the digitizer allegedly that of the next-gen iPad have surfaced. Based on its design it is pretty obvious that this is an iPad component, although whether it is actually that of the next-gen iPad remains to be seen. According to the company's supplier, they claim that this is a genuine front panel for the fifth gen iPad and shows off the same narrow side bezels we have seen in other leaks.

Amazon Kindle Fire to be powered by MediaTek chipset starting next year

The cheap entry-level Kindle Fire tablets made by Amazon will sport MediaTek-made mobile chipsets from 2014, a report claims. This would be a huge win for the Taiwan-based chip maker. MediaTek is a household name in Asia (and mostly in China), where it supplies the chipsets for most ‘white box' mobile devices, and it's also a leading supplier for the up-and-coming Chinese mobile brands. But so far the company's presence in the ‘developed world' hasn't been felt too much.

Six small cars earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards (video)

The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety has released the results of its latest small overlap front crash tests, and there's a surprise among small cars. IIHS tested 12 cars, half of which managed "Good" or "Acceptable" ratings overall, qualifying them for the the coveted Top Safety Pick+. Top Safety Pick+ is still a fairly rare achievement since the new small overlap crash tests were instituted, as it's taken manufacturers time to design, engineer, build and bring to market cars that can score well on the new metric.

Acer To Increase Focus On Google-centric Products

Acer To Increase Focus On Google-centric Products

For the most part when it comes to Acer's hardware offerings, the Taiwanese company has put out Windows-based products, although they have expressed their general dissatisfaction with Microsoft when the company announced their own brand of Windows tablets in the form of the Surface RT and Surface Pro. While Windows has a pretty big user base, we would have expect Acer to continue plodding on despite their dissatisfaction, but as it turns out that might not be the case.

The FiLIP is a smartwatch and GPS locator designed just for kids

My daughter has had a cellphone since the third grade.  She didn't get to keep it with her at all times; it was just for her to take along on overnight school trips, and it was a way to be sure she could reach us whenever she wanted when one of us couldn't go along.  I got a pre-paid phone for her that never seemed to work well and was always in danger of being accidentally left behind somewhere.  I would have loved for her to have this wearable device from FiLIP Technology back then, and I would have made sure she wore it every day.  The FiLIP looks like a watch, and it's made in sizes and colors specially for children aged 4-11.

Toyota recalling 342k Tacomas due to faulty seatbelt pretensioners

Toyota is voluntarily recalling 342,000 Tacoma Access Cab pickups, produced between 2004 and 2011. The wide-ranging recall is due to faults in the screws that attach the belt pre-tensioner to the belt retractor. There are concerns that the screws can loosen themselves over time, especially if the access door is opened and closed with too much force. It's important to note that the recall only covers the driver and front passenger seat, and is limited to just the Access Cab trucks. Other body styles aren't affected.

Samsung Galaxy Golden Could Be New Android Flip Phone

Samsung did introduce the flip phone form factor that ran on the Android operating system in China sometime last year, where it was known as the Samsung SCH-W2013 if model numbers your cup of tea. The thing is, flip phones more or less lost out in the popularity race among smartphones for quite some time now, since one of the main drawbacks would be the screen size, or rather, the lack of it. Perhaps things might change for the better with the Samsung Galaxy Golden.
