Introducing Rookie Review, for Newbie Developers

Introducing Rookie Review, for Newbie Developers

While we as users often revel in the growth of the Android Market/Google Play, proudly stating the 450,000+ apps available as a feature that no other platform, other than iOS, comes close to, the downside to this is the competition developers face to get their apps to the audience they deserve. While there isn’t quite anything that drives downloads as getting featured, in whatever capacity, on the Store, you need to get noticed by the editorial team handling the Store in the first place.

HTC won't bundle Beats headphones with its smartphones anymore

HTC won't bundle Beats headphones with its smartphones anymore

One of the big focuses for HTC last year was on Beats Audio. Namely, slapping that brand everywhere it could. And so, most smartphones that the Taiwanese company launched after it bought its share in Beats came with at least a Beats logo on the back. But, more often than not, Beats headphones were also bundled in the sales package.
Turns out that wasn't such a good idea. HTC was betting that it could attract more customers by this method of differentiation. After all, none of its competitors could bundle Beats headphones with their smartphones.

1970 Porsche 917/LH makes rare trip from Porsche Museum to New York

There have been a number of iconic racing liveries over the course of history – JPS and Gulf spring immediately to mind – and every historic racing fan has his or her favorite. But few are as downright awesome as Martini. The Italian vermouth label has sponsored everything from Lancias to Fords, but many of its very awesomest have been Porsches. Like this bitchin' 917/LH.
This long-tail version (Langheck in German) of the all-conquering 917 racer was fielded twice at Le Mans: once by Porsche Salzburg in 1970, and once by Martini Racing (which gave it its enduring paintjob) in 1971.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1-inch) priced at $399, still unavailable for purchase

Office Depot probably isn't the first place you'd think to look for Samsung's incoming Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1), but it looks to be the first legitimate retailer to throw a price tag on the aforementioned slate. Just weeks after cruising through the FCC, the Tab 2 is now being shown with a $399.99 price. Granted, that's for the lowly 8GB model, but it's still a step in the right direction - you know, towards folks who would like to pay less than $499 for a 10-inch tablet.

From the 2013 BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz's 2013 CL-Class and GL-Class, to the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport, 2013 SRT Viper and many more, I took a spin through the show to check out some of the newest cars that will soon hit the market - and of course, look at a bunch of my favorite rides as well. The show-stopper for me? The matte blue Audi R8 GT, though I loved the Ford Explorer Sport, too.

Intel Atom systems headed for 2013 Nissan rides

We have Garmin and Suzuki team up, and the MyLink infotainment system in select Chevrolet models, so why not let Nissan have their fair share of fun as well. It seems that the higher end 2013 Nissan vehicles will feature Intel Atom-powered in-vehicle infotainment systems, where it will most likely appear on the Infiniti range first. This new system that is powered by Intel's Atom processor would be able to multitask in addition to sending traffic and navigation information to the driver. Of course, backseat drivers too, can cut down on the annoyance level as it delivers entertainment options which will definitely include movies.

Federal appeals court revives Viacom's $1 billion lawsuit against YouTube

. A federal appeals court on Thursday revived Viacom's $1 billion lawsuit against Google's YouTube video-sharing website, The Wall Street Journal reported. The media conglomerate had alleged that YouTube allowed users to post unauthorized Viacom content between 2005 and 2008. The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals remanded the case to a lower court, instructing a district judge to determine whether YouTube had knowledge or awareness of infringing material and if it was unwilling to remove it. “We are pleased with the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals,” Viacom said in a statement.

Intel is notorious for marking its territory on a wide array of consumer gear, but one piece of kit that's unlikely to sport that famous sticker is the infotainment system of Nissan's 2013 Infiniti lineup. Unveiled today at the New York International Auto Show, the in-vehicle computer represents a collaboration between Intel and Nissan and was showcased within the Infiniti LE concept vehicle. On the inside lurks an Atom CPU, which bucks the general trend toward ARM architecture in these systems.

GSM Galaxy Nexus seeing signal issues after Android 4.0.4 update?

Sometimes, updates aren't as sweet as they initially sound. Such is the case with Android 4.0.4, which recently rolled out to owners of the GSM Galaxy Nexus. According to an increasingly vocal swath of members at xda-developers (and confirmed by a listing on Google's own Support page), there are mysterious signal issues now troubling the device. For many users, there's an inexplicable loss of signal - a complete inability to make or receive calls and text messages - after applying the v4.0.4 update, though it's beginning to look like Sleep is the issue.

We're speechless. Well, maybe not. but, at the very least, we're surprised by Scion's latest marketing campaign for its iQ minicar. There are a lot of reasons to be interested in the iQ – its small size makes for easy parking, it's not terribly expensive and it's nicely fuel efficient – but its ability to do donuts with four full-size occupants isn't one of them.

Not just four occupants. How about four bikini models? Not your style? There's four dudes, four bikers and four police officers, too, each in their own video.
