Wikipedia Pilots Articles Via SMS Service, Targets Africa

Wikipedia Pilots Articles Via SMS Service, Targets Africa

Have you ever wondered just how much homework in the world has cited Wikipedia as its source. It would be criminal to rely on Wikipedia for everything in terms of research, but hey, I am quite sure that it has not stopped anyone from doing so, either. Well, here we are with word that Wikipedia has started off piloting a service which will send articles via SMS, and this particular service will have users in Africa as its primary target "market".

Samsung Galaxy Mega for Sprint leaks, release coming soon?

Samsung Galaxy Mega for Sprint leaks, release coming soon?

It isn't news that the Samsung Galaxy Mega is headed to Sprint, but is the release finally approaching.  Official word of the handset's destination was announced over the summer along with AT&T and US Cellular, but we haven't heard much since. Now we are greeted with our first official press render of the Sprint variant courtesy of @evleaks. A bit of background on the Mega. Samsung actually launched the handset in two size options, 5.8 and 6.3-inch variants, in other parts of the world earlier this year.

Ruby celebrates 90 years of BMW Motorrad with special helmet collection

BMW isn't the only one celebrating its own 90th anniversary building motorbikes. So is Atelier Ruby, that French manufacturer of jewel-like motorcycle helmets. Ruby has just released a capsule collection of helmets marking BMW Motorrad's 90th anniversary, and we want them almost as much as a Bimmer bike itself.

Sony Xperia Z1S Spotted In The Wild

Sony Xperia Z1S Spotted In The Wild

Thanks to a leaked press render the other day, the Sony Xperia Z1S was revealed. For those unfamiliar, the Sony Xperia Z1S is essentially a smaller version of Sony's Xperia Z-series of Android smartphones. A similar device called the Xperia Z1 f was actually launched a while back although the handset was a Japan exclusive, leading some to believe that the Xperia Z1S could be the international version that will be making its way to countries other than Japan.

DualShock 4 Controllers Drop Analog Buttons Due To Lack Of Developer Interest

DualShock 4 Controllers Drop Analog Buttons Due To Lack Of Developer Interest

So we know that Sony has gone through more than 20 different prototypes for its DualShock 4 controller for their upcoming PlayStation 4 console. Well for those who are interested in learning more about the console and some of the changes that Sony made under the hood, an interview (continued from last time) with Sony's Toshimasa Aoiki held with VentureBeat revealed that the DualShock 4 controllers also did away with analog buttons, claiming that a lack of interest from developers led to their decision to do away with the feature.

Red Bull pits V8 Supercar against stunt plane... on a beach

Red Bull pits V8 Supercar against stunt plane... on a beach

One of the top comments on this YouTube video from Red Bull reads (sics throughout), "Red Bull isn't an energy drink company. It is a marketing company that owns a energy drink. It all ways has been." And that's just fine with us, so long as the Austrian company continues putting together stunts like this. The idea of pitting a plane against a car is pretty common, and even when using a V8 Supercar and a Red Bull stunt aerobatics plane, it's nothing we haven't seen before. That said, adding a beach on Australia's gorgeous Gold Coast to the equation brings an additional layer of excitement to the car-versus-plane trope.

Galaxy Note 3 Review

Galaxy Note 3 Review

We saw the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for the first time at IFA in Berlin when it was unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Now the device is available this month for 299.99 from all four carriers, and we spent some real-world usage time with a retail unit from Sprint. Samsung has come a long way since the release of the original Galaxy Note 1 in 2011. Then, most people made fun of me when I was placing calls from this "ridiculously big phone". Fast forward to 2013, it looks like the Galaxy Note smartphone lineup is taken very seriously now, and Samsung has sold over 30 million Galaxy Note 2.

Samsung And LG Allegedly Caught In The Act Of Industrial Electricity Theft

Samsung And LG Allegedly Caught In The Act Of Industrial Electricity Theft

In South Korea, there are two different kinds of electricity pricing tiers. The more affordable one between the two is meant for industrial use only, and that would mean manufacturing, mining, and other production equipment and facilities (factories included). Apart from that, there is also the standard priced electricity, which is meant for offices, R&D centers, and general purpose buildings among others. Well, this is certainly cause for temptation, as some companies have been discovered to have used the cheap 'industrial' electricity for 'normal' usage.

New TiVo Feature Allows DVRs To Live Stream Content On iPhones, iPads

Things have been quiet for TiVo for quite some time as the last bit of news we heard from the company was their announcement of their TiVo Mini, which extends the standard TiVo set-top box to additional rooms back in March. Today, TiVo has some exciting news to share with its customers, especially those of you who have always wanted to access recorded material located on your TiVo outside of your home. TiVo is enabling a feature that allows its users to view content from their TiVo set-top boxes from their mobile device anywhere they'd like to access it starting today.

Ford idling Michigan Assembly Plant to trim Focus, C-Max supply

Ford idling Michigan Assembly Plant to trim Focus, C-Max supply

Ford will be putting the brakes on production at its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, MI, idling production during the weeks of October 28 and December 16. Ford is citing the first drop in US sales in 27 months, a 4.2-percent dip in September, as the impetus for trimming their supplies, according to Automotive News. Ford's deft management of its supplies has been part of its success over the years, and seeing supplies of Focus and C-Max, the two vehicles built at MAP, rise from 58 and 108 days, respectively, to 71 and 122 days over the span of a month was apparently all that was need to justify the trimming.

[Update: It's out!] BBM for Android finally rolling out later today; be sure to "wait in line"

After Blackberry failed to launch BBM for Android (thanks to server overload from an unofficial release of the app), the company has finally announced the resuming of rollouts for the messaging service. They say we should be seeing the app in the Google Play Store within the next few hours, but being able to use it won't be as simple as downloading it and making an account. In order to ensure they can properly handle the load of an expected 6 million users, Blackberry is implementing a queue system — you simply “get in line,” and once you make it to the front you're good to go.

Prevent spills with the Vector Cupholder

Prevent spills with the Vector Cupholder

The Vector Cupholder is a solid aluminum cup holder that clamps to tables, desks and trays up to 1.5 inches in thickness. It has the ability to support a wide variety of containers and mugs up to 3 inches in diameter; paper and plastic cups holding from 6 to 30 ounces of liquid; thermos bottles; even the odd little cup you get on airplanes. The Vector Cupholder weighs only 3.5 oz and folds flat for easy transport. I would love one of these for my next flight. The little indentation built into airplane tray tables to hold a cup isn't always the most effective. On my last flight the tray table itself wasn't level and we had some turbulence.

LG G2 review

LG G2 review

Let's face it, smartphones have become too powerful for us to even worry about raw specs. If you are getting a high-end device, they will all be nearly identical in terms of performance, with only milliseconds in loading to put them apart. A smartphone needs to set itself apart from the competition by being unique and having great features/software. Can the LG G2 stand against competitors like the almighty Samsung Galaxy S4, the amazingly-built HTC One and other high-end powerhouses like the Galaxy Note 3? It certainly is different, with a form factor that is unlike any other smartphone and features that will not disappoint.
