McLaren introduces the MP4-28 Formula One [w/videos]

McLaren F1 hasn't gone into much detail on the changes included in its brand new MP4-28, which might cause a double-take since it has the same lines and paint job as last year's car. We're told, however, that under the skin it is a new beast, team managing director Jonathan Neale saying that instead of evolving last year's race-winning car it made more sense to be more ambitious and provide a more open-ended development track. The front suspension is a pull-rod type like the one used by Ferrari, which is a change from last year, and the sidepods and rear bodywork are probably the most notable of the other upgrades.

Gears + chocolate = I want some!

Gears + chocolate = I want some!

It's almost the weekend folks. For me that means I can eat junk. Yay. I have this thing where I don't eat sweets during the week, but starting Friday night, all bets are off. That's why these edible gadget gears are calling my name right now. They are hand crafted chocolate candies made by Andie's Speciality Sweets, an Etsy artisan. They are made to order from Fair Trade Organic Chocolate, Certified Organic Flavorings, and Organic Starches.

Russel Sutton's nine-cylinder radial engine LIVES!

Russel Sutton's nine-cylinder radial engine LIVES!

Russell Sutton has proven once again that patience can trump all adversity. If you recall, the man has spent nearly five years constructing a nine-cylinder radial engine from a smattering of Honda single-cylinder XR600 thumpers. The last time we saw this beast, it ran briefly before succumbing to mechanical failure due to some lackluster cylinder sleeves. Now Sutton has resleeved each of the nine cylinders and has his creation running like a song with a little help from an MSD rev limiter.

Ford nets $5.7B in 2012, $1.6B in fourth quarter

Ford brought in $5.7 billion in net income during 2012, which is around $307 million less than one year prior. Even so, the automaker closed out 2012 with the highest pre-tax profit for a single quarter in nearly 10 years, earning $1.7 billion in the fourth quarter thanks largely to a higher-than-average truck mix in the US. That's a jump of $577 million over 2011. Likewise, that translated into fourth quarter income of $1.6 billion. All told, Ford set a full-year pre-tax profit record in 2012.

Bizarre Honda Civic explosion triggered by trunk remote

Bizarre Honda Civic explosion triggered by trunk remote

In most states, it's illegal to transport oxygen and acetylene tanks inside of a closed cabin vehicle. Why. Ask the owner of this 2012 Honda Civic. Jackie Sugrue's boyfriend, a plumber, left his welding rig inside the vehicle's trunk while the couple went shopping. Unbeknownst to him, the acetylene tank was slowly leaking, filling the whole interior with highly flammable vapors. When the wife hit the remote trunk release, the mechanism generated enough of a charge to ignite the fumes, causing the gas inside to explode.

Hyundai shows us two more Super Bowl commercials

Hyundai shows us two more Super Bowl commercials

Hyundai is gearing up to show five commercials during this year's Super Bowl, and you've probably already seen one of them called Don't Tell that's been airing on television for weeks now. The Korean automaker has released two of the other four ads, though it looks like it might keep the headlining ad for the three-row Santa Fe, called Epic PlayDate, under wraps until the big game. Of the two ads published on YouTube, we like Stuck the most, which features the Sonata Turbo.

China Considers Lifting Ban on Consoles

Video game consoles have been banned in China for over a decade and reports claim that the country's government is considering to lift the ban. The speculations arise after Sony's PlayStation 3 obtained a quality certification from China's safety standards body late last year. For China to end its ban on consoles, an approval must be sought from all seven ministries that issued the ban.
