Epic Games has released the opening cinematic for Gears of War 3. It is an upcoming third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Studios exclusively for the Microsoft Xbox 360. Originally due for release in April 2011, the game was delayed and will now be released on September 20, 2011. The opening cinematic video provides a smooth rundown of Gears of War lore while setting up the seaside skirmishes and Lambent clashes.

Motorola XT531 passes the FCC with AT&T bands in tow

After being officially announced for Asia, Europe, and Latin America a couple of weeks ago, the Motorola XT531 looks like it may even be headed stateside. The affordable Android-powered smartphone has passed through the FCC's rigorous testing, but that's not the story in itself. The thing is that the device which did go through the FCC has 3G bands tailor-made for AT&T. That means that there's a great possibility that AT&T will add this handset to its portfolio sometime in the future.
We don't, however, know when. Or how much it will cost. In the end, AT&T may even decide not to sell the XT531. Anything can happen.

webOS is apparently faster on the iPad than HP's TouchPad

As it was shockingly revealed, HP announced that they would be discontinuing their webOS tablets and smartphones. It seems that the reason behind this was that their platform simply could not compete with iOS and Android, thus they had to throw in the towel and minimize their losses. It also appears that the hardware that HP had given its webOS team stopped them from being creative and innovative due to the limitations of its hardware, which was reportedly slow.

We're still trying to wrap our heads around yesterday's sounding of what will most likely be the death knell for WebOS. The fine folks over at The Next Web have offered some insight, and it seems that hardware was the problem. It's no secret that the TouchPad was released with a single-core chip in an age of dual-core tablets and super phones. As we noted in our review, the device simply couldn't keep up with the competition.

RIM to launch BlackBerry music service?

While RIM's BlackBerry market share might be on its way downhill, it's not too late for RIM to make amends while it still can. In order to capture a larger market beyond the enterprise sector it's so familiar with, it looks like the company is going to take some drastic measures to appeal to a wider audience. CNET has reported that according to its sources, RIM will be launching a new music service. Apparently RIM is negotiating contracts with the four major record labels in the US with at least one of them already onboard and two more close to finalizing the deal.

In the wake of slow sales of WebOS devices, HP has announced that it is terminating its line of WebOS devices, which includes the TouchPad Tablet and the smartphones. HP has announced this as it revealed its quarterly revenue of $32.2 Billion, up slightly when compared to last year. If there's one thing to take away from this announcement, it is this: competing in the hardware space is extremely tough and even giants like HP sometime have to throw the towel. As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), procurement and purchasing power is as important as the design and technology behind the product.What happens next will be interesting.

Apple to introduce China Mobile iPhone?

It looks like Apple has its sights set on getting its iPhone out to the country with the largest population in the world - China. Yes well all know that China already has the iPhone, but it's not being sold by the country's largest carrier over there at the moment, and that carrier is none other than China Mobile. The world's largest carrier, China Mobile, has been reported to have 7.44 million iPhone users on its network despite the fact that it isn't selling the device (that means no carrier subsidies), and users can't use 3G on it either. Apple knows that people in China do want iPhones, and is looking forward to capitalize on the fact.

Maserati is moving ahead with its plans to bring a trident-branded sport-utility vehicle into the world. Reportedly set to debut in Frankfurt later this year, the Jeep Grand Cherokee-based SUV will be built at Chrysler's Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. That's right, an Italian-blooded sport-ute is set to be pieced together right here in the Motor City. This is a bit of a kick in the guts for Verizon customers who bought the phone in good faith, that they would receive the Gingerbread update eventually. Whatever happened when the initial rollout started, some users had a bad experience, the update has been with held for further testing. As with any OTA update there are always risks associated with connection quality, network coverage etc; for the update to start and then be pulled indicates any amount of problems. General Motors' European divisions are keeping mum on the details, but Opel and Vauxhall are preparing to unveil some sort of new concept car next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. All GM is saying at this point is that the experimental prototype will be driver-focused. Which sounds good, but we'll reserve any sort of judgement until we know a little more. Or really, until we know anything. In 2010, Volkswagen purchased 19.9 percent of Suzuki, and the two have been working together in the form of a self-described comprehensive partnership. Apparently, "working together" means different things to the two automakers, however, because neither side is thrilled with the Japanese-German automotive tie-up. So much so, that Suzuki may be looking to take its talents to Italy. Suzuki currently has a deal with Fiat, in which the Japanese automaker supplies its SX4 crossover for rebadging as the Sedici in Europe.

Not exactly the most auspicious of starts for HP's newest webOS-powered device, have we. It seems that mobile operators in the UK are not interested to carry the HP Pre 3 smartphone despite it having arrived in Europe now. Yes sir, you read that right – not a single one of them have drawn up plans to sell the Pre 3 directly – I would suppose that this has something to do with the popularity of Android handsets as well as the upcoming iPhone 5 which will surely do a whole lot better compared to a webOS device.
