Sony: Vita will pull gamers from tablets and phones

Sony: Vita will pull gamers from tablets and phones

In a mobile, app-driven world, Sony is convinced that gamers will flock to the PlayStation Vita. Based on the official specs alone, Sony could be right. Then again, Nvidia's Kal-El is also around to corner, so we'll have to see how this turns out. In an interview with GameSpot during Gamescom 2011, Sony's director of hardware marketing John Koller said that gamers will discard their smartphones and tablets for the company's delayed handheld console, the PlayStation Vita.

Motorola XT531 passes the FCC with AT&T bands in tow

Motorola XT531 passes the FCC with AT&T bands in tow

After being officially announced for Asia, Europe, and Latin America a couple of weeks ago, the Motorola XT531 looks like it may even be headed stateside. The affordable Android-powered smartphone has passed through the FCC's rigorous testing, but that's not the story in itself. The thing is that the device which did go through the FCC has 3G bands tailor-made for AT&T. That means that there's a great possibility that AT&T will add this handset to its portfolio sometime in the future.
We don't, however, know when. Or how much it will cost. In the end, AT&T may even decide not to sell the XT531. Anything can happen.

Porsche recalling select 2011-12 Boxster, Cayman, 911 models for seatbelt anchor issue

Porsche has announced a recall for certain Model Year 2011-2012 Boxster, Cayman and 911 models for seatbeat anchor plate issues that could increase the risk of injury during a crash. Porsche says there's a possibility that affected models have undersized anchor plate mounting holes, which could restrict the plate from rotating as intended and may result in the seatbelt not being "routed optimally around the occupant." Over time, the anchor plate could loosen, causing the seatbelt to not function as intended.

This year's LA Auto Show Design Challenge is going Hollywood

Hollywood and the automobile have had a long and storied relationship together. Iconic vehicles routinely appear on the silver screen, and end up earning a place in the hearts of millions of fans. When you see a highland green Mustang, you think McQueen and San Franciscio. A Delorean will push your throttle foot down until you're driving 88 miles per hour, while a black Audi S8 will remind you to know how to walk out of the place you're walking into. The LA Design Challenge understands the link between car and star, and has decided to make this the main idea behind its theme for the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Now you can launch Hangouts directly from YouTube, rather than heading over to Google+ and pasting in a link.

webOS is apparently faster on the iPad than HP's TouchPad

As it was shockingly revealed, HP announced that they would be discontinuing their webOS tablets and smartphones. It seems that the reason behind this was that their platform simply could not compete with iOS and Android, thus they had to throw in the towel and minimize their losses. It also appears that the hardware that HP had given its webOS team stopped them from being creative and innovative due to the limitations of its hardware, which was reportedly slow.

We're still trying to wrap our heads around yesterday's sounding of what will most likely be the death knell for WebOS. The fine folks over at The Next Web have offered some insight, and it seems that hardware was the problem. It's no secret that the TouchPad was released with a single-core chip in an age of dual-core tablets and super phones. As we noted in our review, the device simply couldn't keep up with the competition.

In the wake of slow sales of WebOS devices, HP has announced that it is terminating its line of WebOS devices, which includes the TouchPad Tablet and the smartphones. HP has announced this as it revealed its quarterly revenue of $32.2 Billion, up slightly when compared to last year. If there's one thing to take away from this announcement, it is this: competing in the hardware space is extremely tough and even giants like HP sometime have to throw the towel. As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), procurement and purchasing power is as important as the design and technology behind the product. What happens next will be interesting.

Apple to introduce China Mobile iPhone?

It looks like Apple has its sights set on getting its iPhone out to the country with the largest population in the world - China. Yes well all know that China already has the iPhone, but it's not being sold by the country's largest carrier over there at the moment, and that carrier is none other than China Mobile. The world's largest carrier, China Mobile, has been reported to have 7.44 million iPhone users on its network despite the fact that it isn't selling the device (that means no carrier subsidies), and users can't use 3G on it either. Apple knows that people in China do want iPhones, and is looking forward to capitalize on the fact.

Bulletproof skin actually works

Bulletproof skin actually works

What happens when you cross spider webs with human skin cells. Why, you could very well end up with an interesting new material that could repel bullets – as long as they travel within reasonable speeds, of course. This is made possible thanks to a Dutch team who conjured this unique “bulletproof” skin using special, U.S.-made spider silk and human skin cells. Basically, it stopped a bullet that was fired at a reduced speed, and it certainly will not be able to go up against a shot from a .22 caliber rifle, which is actually the benchmark for protection for a Type 1 bulletproof vest.

So much so, that Suzuki may be looking to take its talents to Italy.
