HTC's Massive Sensation XL Is the Humvee of Android Phones

HTC's Massive Sensation XL Is the Humvee of Android Phones

SAN DIEGO — You think you've seen big phones before. That old Motorola Star-TAC buried in your closet may be a fatty, but it ain't got nothin' on HTC's latest slab of a smartphone, the Sensation XL. This thing is a beast. The 4.7-inch display is the largest we've seen on any smartphone. And with this much screen real estate, the Sensation XL is obviously meant to be a quasi-tablet of some sort; providing actual phone service almost seems like an afterthought.

Fortunately, the phone does a wonderful job displaying movies and apps on its WVGA LCD screen.

Judge says Samsung tablet infringes Apple patents, taunts Samsung attorney

. United States District Judge Judy Koh on Thursday ruled that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet does infringe on multiple Apple patents. Judge Koh failed to order an injunction preventing the sale of the tablet in the U.S. however, stating that Apple must first establish the validity of the patents in question. According to the judge, Apple may have difficulty doing so, but she did take extra care to point out how similar Samsung's tablet is to the iPad.

New trade agreement may mean more domestics sold in South Korea

In 2010, domestic automakers shipped about 7,500 vehicles to Korea, representing less than one percent of its auto market. To add insult to injury, well over half a million Korean cars were sold here. But that could all change, according to Ford CEO Alan Mulally, who told The Detroit News that a new trade agreement "will open new opportunities for Ford to reach even more Korean customers.". Panoramic Ball Cam lets you capture everything

Panoramic Ball Cam lets you capture everything

Love taking photographs but you never know from which angle you should capture a great shot. Why not capture everything instead. Some folks have come up with an innovative new camera called the Panoramic Ball Cam. It's basically a ball that's been embedded with 36 mobile phone cameras and is designed to capture 360 panoramic photographs. All you have to do is toss the ball into the air, and when it reaches the highest point, the ball will snap a photograph with all 36 cameras at once. The 360 degree view is then stitched together and can be viewed on a computer using a program.

2014 BMW i3 to feature range-extending 652-cc motorcycle engine?

Recently, Consumer Reports' Eric Evarts spoke about the i3 with BMW chief engineer Ulli Kranz. Evarts asked of the i3′s optional range-extending engine and, even though Kranz wouldn't discuss specifics, Evarts seems to have prodded Kranz in such a way that BMW's range-extending solution was revealed. Evarts suggested to Kranz that one of BMW's motorcycle engines would be ideally suited for range-extending duties and, rather than deny this, Kranz' “eyes lit up when it was suggested that a motorcycle engine might be a perfect fit for such a car,” according to Evarts.

TDK juices up headphones and toy cars sans wires

A paperless environment is definitely worth looking into, although I do not think that it is viable at this moment since paper is still an important aspect in terms of documentation. Wireless connectivity, however, has its place in the future, but there are still limits to it. Wireless headphones have been around for quite some time already as it lays the ghost of a wired existence to rest, but how about wireless charging. This is exactly what TDK has done by rolling out a prototype pair of headphones that can be juiced up sans wires, where the company is tipped to do the same for smartphones down the road.

Is BlackBerry More Secure Than Android? Ask Obama and the US Military.

Despite the growth of Android and iOS, corporate types continue to clutch their BlackBerry's on Wall Street and elsewhere, largely pointing to security as the main reason they won't give up on RIM. But how long until that becomes a distant memory. Maybe not long if the National Security Agency, US Army, and other American military branches have anything to say about it.

Thailand flooding halts Honda and Toyota auto production

Thailand flooding halts Honda and Toyota auto production

Japanese automakers are having a rough year coping with Mother Nature. First it was earthquakes in Japan, and now flooding in Thailand. Since late July, typhoons in Southeast Asia have caused billions of dollars of damage, and now production at three Toyota plants and one Honda facility has been halted, according to the Associated Press. While Toyota's plants in eastern Thailand haven't been directly affected by the weather, the inability of suppliers to deliver parts has caused the shutdowns there. Honda's plant in Ayutthaya, north of Bangkok, isn't so lucky.

Apple iPhone 4S hands-on

. We managed to get our hands on a brand new Apple iPhone 4S a little early, and while we haven't spent enough time with the device to write a full review yet, here are some initial impressions:. The iPhone 4S is noticeably faster. Having used an iPhone 4 since launch day, the experience now closely matches the iPad 2 in terms of UI speed. Apps open faster, browser performance is improved, and other system functions like installing apps from the App Store while you navigate to another app are much snappier. The camera… is amazing. As noted above, the camera app opens much more quickly and taking pictures is faster as well.

A year has passed since Oprah gave away 275 2012 Volkswagen Beetle models during her final "Favorite Things" episode, but those audience members didn't drive off the lot with their new ride. Since the Beetle was still a year away from production, audience members didn't even get to see what their new car looked like.
But while the wait was likely difficult, those lucky audience member are finally getting their high-five-inducing Bug.

Verizon makes changes to its privacy policy

For Verizon customers: just in case you haven't noticed or haven't bothered to pay attention, the carrier has recently made a significant change to its privacy policy for mobile users this week. Its privacy policy now mentions that in order to help out “certain business and marketing reports” as well as “making mobile ads you see more relevant” the carrier will be obtaining information from your mobile surfing habits. While it's important to know that none of the data taken can be used to personally identify you, the fact that it automatically opts users into agreeing with the change has some people irked.

EA defends cop killing in Battlefield 3

EA has issued a statement in regards to an objective in Battlefield 3 that requires players to shoot police. Last week the ESRB rated EA's upcoming shooter Battlefield 3 with an unsurprising “Mature” rating. The board noted realistic gunfire, splashes of blood, stabbing soldiers to death with knives, and even a sequence where a restrained character's throat is slit off-screen as a cause for the rating. No real big surprise, honestly.
But then the ESRB also revealed a mission objective to be completed that now has EA explaining itself: shooting police officers.

In addition to its mere existence on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the game will come with graphics upgrades that include a 16:9 aspect ratio (the original game was in 4:3) and HD resolution. It will also be compatible with all wheel systems on Xbox, and with the Logitech GT Driving Force on PS3. Nokia's secret OS to address sliding position in emerging markets

. As Nokia fights to regain its footing, the company recently abandoned Symbian and MeeGo to instead adopt Windows Phone in an effort to stabilize its declining smartphone business. But that move only addresses half of Nokia's problem. A firm position in the big-margin smartphone market will be paramount to the vendor's success moving forward, but the market for low-cost devices is still massive. Just as Nokia's smartphone sales have spiraled downward in recent quarters, Nokia's feature phone business been in sharp decline as well.

Just like this 24-carat stunner before it, the shiny setup gives something a little extra to that Apple logo, by way of Marilyn's favorite gems, but sets itself apart with the addition of a rather unexciting paisley pattern. If you're the type who flushes hundos, though, you can ditch the paisleys for your very own custom design. As is often the case with these things, the price isn't listed, but frankly, we'd hold out until they replace those black plastic chiclets with something fit for the Diamond Princess.
