Digitizer makes 3D scanning accessible, but not yet practical

Like we said, even before you power up the Digitizer, it already puts a smile on your face. The simple black plastic body definitely isn't going to win any design awards and it doesn't exactly ooze luxury, but it is playfully futuristic, in a way reminiscent of early '90s children's toys. It's angular, understated and utilitarian, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Oddly there is some assembly required: the four rubber feet used to keep it from slipping about a desktop come packaged in a small zip-top bag.

Google has just announced the Nexus 5 (official page) without fanfare on its website. The Nexus 5 is a highly anticipated handset which is mostlybased on the excellent LG G2 hardware. Motorola has done something that's not quite common by today's standards, though I guess it's something we should all be getting used to by now. They have updated the camera app on the Moto X, except the changes didn't come with a cumbersome firmware upgrade as most manufacturers would issue them — it actually came in the form of a Google Play Store update. The upgrade itself seems pretty minor in scope, with the biggest known change so far being a brighter picture in the viewfinder (you know, to make sure all those blurrycam Nexus 5 shots are looking blurry-licious).

Suzuki previews Crosshiker, X-Lander, Hustler ahead of Tokyo

With the Tokyo Motor Show looming on the horizon, Suzuki has revealed a trio of concept cars it will present at the expo. First up is the Crosshiker concept, a compact crossover that looks good enough in metallic red, but in its essence reminds us of the oft-maligned X-90 convertible crossover coupe. Based on the G70/Regina concept, the Crosshiker packs a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine into a compact form that weighs just 1,785 pounds.
Next comes the X-Lander, which strikes us as a smaller take on the formula espoused by the Isuzu VX-02 or Land Rover DC100 Sport concepts.

Verizon HTC One's Android 4.3 update delayed by a month

Just when you thought Verizon customers might finally be treated to a timely software upgrade, the bad news bees sting again. HTC America president Jason Mackenzie has announced on Twitter that the upgrade to Android 4.3 for the HTC One has been delayed for Verizon. The exec says they need about a month to work out some more things and go through the testing motions again. The upgrade was originally promised to be out of the door by the end of October.
HTC isn't interested in saying who or what, exactly, caused the delay, of course, but with Verizon's track record it's tough to imagine it was anyone's fault but their own.

US Treasury reports $9.7B loss on GM shares

The US Treasury has announced a $9.7 billion loss on the $49.5 billion it used to bailout General Motors in 2009, according to a report from the The Detroit News, which in turn cites the quarterly report from the Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program to Congress. The Treasury's original stake in GM saw it taking 912 million shares or 60.8 percent of the company in the bailout, numbers which have since fallen considerably. Since 2009, the Feds have sold off 811 million shares, and now own less than seven percent of the resurgent GM.

Ford idling Michigan Assembly Plant to trim Focus, C-Max supply

Ford will be putting the brakes on production at its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, MI, idling production during the weeks of October 28 and December 16. Ford is citing the first drop in US sales in 27 months, a 4.2-percent dip in September, as the impetus for trimming their supplies, according to Automotive News. Ford's deft management of its supplies has been part of its success over the years, and seeing supplies of Focus and C-Max, the two vehicles built at MAP, rise from 58 and 108 days, respectively, to 71 and 122 days over the span of a month was apparently all that was need to justify the trimming.
