HTC Desire Android 2.3 update to launch “end of July”

HTC has issued another short statement regarding the off/on Android 2.3 update for its popular HTC Desire phone, with the company now saying the Desire version of the Gingerbread upgrade will “begin” to launch before the end of July. Which is at least something. Here's the full, rather brief, statement:. Hi everyone. We have more news about our build of Gingerbread for Desire. Our testing has gone well so we will begin rolling out the update by the end of July! Thank you again for your support!

But remember, always take update timeline announcements with a pinch of salt.

ASUS Eee Pad Slider delayed until September

ASUS' Eee Pad Slider can't be said to have had a smooth transition from the drawing board to the store shelf – in fact, this Android 3.0 Honeycomb powered device has seen its launch date being pushed all the way back to September this year, at least according to a post that is on the ASUS UK Facebook page. According to ASUS, it will confirm launch dates and pricing of the hybrid tablet sometime later this July, and prior to its launch, ASUS hopes customers will take their time to complete some surveys in order for ASUS to get a better ‘feel' of what customers look for in future products.

Verizon LG Revolution now only $49.99, Samsung Droid Charge $149.99 at Target online

Two of Verizon's 4G LTE capable Android-powered phones are now available online at Target for a lot less than what Big Red is asking. The devices in question are the LG Revolution and the Samsung Droid Charge. The official recommended price for the former is $249.99 with a new two-year contract, and $299.99 with the same 2-year commitment for the latter. Those are prices that are well above what has been pretty much the standard for high-end smartphones in the US ever since the original iPhone launched – $199.99.

7Digital app updated, now with Android lock-screen player controls

The latest Android release of the 7Digital music player has one very nice little feature built into it – an integrated player control that works from the Android lock screen. We were rather sceptical about how this may work on the various customised lock screens out there, so installed the thing to have a look. You'll need to sign in with a 7Digital account even to play music already on your SD card, but when you do….
…that's what it looks like on the Xperia Arc lock screen (left) and the HTC Desire lock screen (right). It basically opens the app's interface when you press standby.

HRP-2 Humanoid robot plays along with your music

Are you tired of not being able to find band mates to jam along with you when you're bored at home. Well it looks like you won't have any trouble doing so in the future. A Japanese researcher has managed to repurpose the HRP-2 humanoid robot from Kawada Industries to be the perfect musical companion. Using a program, the robot is able to listen to and watch a human being play the acoustic guitar, and then pick up the beat and melody of the song.

Ever since iPhone launched, Steve Jobs has been denying the possibility of stylus on Apple's touch screen devices. Stylus. Why would you need one, when you got this amazing, finger operated multi-touch interface on a device with a super responsive capacitive touch screen.
It is true in most cases. Except one - when you need/want to actually write or draw something on the touchscreen display. Finger really sucks as a writing tool on touchscreen.
