HTC One, QWERTY-touting LG Enact and LG Exalt flip phone now available at Verizon

HTC One, QWERTY-touting LG Enact and LG Exalt flip phone now available at Verizon

Right on schedule, the HTC One has become available to buy from Verizon today. This comes after many months in which the carrier nicknamed Big Red has dragged its feet when it came to launching it. But alas, it's finally here. Not alone, though. The One has been joined in Verizon's portfolio by two LG-made devices, the Enact and the Exalt. These got leaked as part of a roadmap a while back, and now they're listed on Verizon's website – both of them.

The HTC One can be yours for $199.99 with a new two-year contract, as you'd expect.

BMW Concept X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid headed to Frankfurt

With six confirmed public debuts scheduled for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW is definitely going to have its hands full. While we've already driven models like the 4 Series and the i3, one of the more interesting introductions is a "concept" plug-in hybrid version of the new F15 BMW X5 called the BMW Concept X5 eDrive. As the second concept to wear the eDrive name, this X5 combines a 95-horsepower electric motor with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to balance performance and efficiency.

Ubuntu Edge campaign fails to meet its $32 million target

Ubuntu Edge campaign fails to meet its $32 million target

The ambitious Ubuntu Edge smartphone project has met its untimely demise, at least as far as the Indiegogo campaign is concerned. Back in July, Canonical started a campaign to raise $32 million in 30 days for the Ubuntu Edge smartphone, a device with the kind of specifications that dreams are made of. The crowd-funded campaign had a strong start, amassing over $2 million in the first eight hours and going on to hit a record amount of over $10 million, the highest for a crowd-funded campaign, beating the likes of the Pebble watch (which is an actual product at this point).

C7 Corvette Stingray could get start-stop tech to save fuel

Chevrolet chose not to include fuel-saving stop-start technology in the 2014 Corvette Stingray package, but future Corvettes may get it as government-mandated fuel economy requirements are raised. To explain why the launch-year model doesn't have the technology, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter simply says, "It is more mass and more cost," Edmunds reports. As sports car enthusiasts, we like the sound of that.

Police are choosing SUVs over sedans with greater frequency

Police are choosing SUVs over sedans with greater frequency

Our report on the newly EcoBoosted Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer to the rest of us), had a segment on the need for more space in police vehicles, due to the amount of equipment officers need to carry on a day-to-day basis. Judging by the comments from that post, there are some who question that reasoning. Now, though, there's further evidence supporting our claim that the police car isn't really a car anymore. Rather, SUVs are becoming the dominant vehicle for police departments around the country, according to a report from The Detroit News.
