According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the all-electric Chevrolet Volt is not a fire hazard, despite coming under scrutiny in 2011 after a model caught fire after a side-impact crash test. General Motors did respond to that scenario by offering a buyback program for existing Volt owners who suffer from sleepless nights, wondering whether they might end up with burns as their cars spontaneously combust. Not only that, General Motors went ahead to introduce a fair bit of enhancements to the Volt's battery coolant system, keeping their fingers crossed that everything would turn out all right after that.
