Future browsers may be much more similar to the OS GUI we are using today and not so much perceived to be an application that runs on top of an operating system. The vision is that applications based on HTML5 will simply run without intercepting error messages that there is the need for additional software, or at least a software update, that needs to be downloaded and installed. Microsoft is the latest proponent of such a plug-in free future, which affects Flash in today's web environment.
